  • Kenneth “Ken” Lane

    LANE, Kenneth “Ken” 1922 – 2015….
Surrounded by his loving family at his home, on Wednesday, May 6 2015, Ken passed away in his 93rd year. Beloved husband of Betty (Margaret Elizabeth Rothnie) for over 69 years, and dear father of Daniel Lane and his wife Judy (London) and Kerry Shellard (England). Loved by his grandchildren, Katie, Krista (Matt), Daniel and Craig. Predeceased by his brothers Frank and Richard, and his son-in-law Robert Shellard. Born in London, Ontario to parents Lily and Dick Lane, Ken’s passion was playing the trumpet, and during his time in the Royal Canadian Navy band in Shelbourne, NS he met his best friend and wife Betty. They returned to London, Ont. to raise their two children. Taking a job in the car shops with the Canadian National Railway, he became an artful carpenter and later built most of the home they lived in for over 60 years. He joined the London Free Press in 1960 where he stayed until retirement. Ken continued to play the trumpet in dancehalls across Ontario until his seventies, including the Stork Club in Port Stanley, Wonderland and the 401, and was first trumpet in the Johnny Downs Orchestra for many years. He was known for his humor, devotion to his family and kept us laughing even in his last days. We will miss him very much. A heartfelt thank you to the VON palliative care team, Dr. J MacLean and the CCAC for all their support, compassion and care. At Ken’s request cremation has taken place, with no visitation or formal funeral. As an expression of sympathy, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of London, 435 Windermere Rd, London, ON N5X 2T1. Cremation and Interment at Woodland Cemetery, London. A.
