Albert George “Bud” Grant
GRANT, Albert George “Bud” ….
Peacefully, with his daughter at his side at Strathroy and Middlesex General Hospital, Friday January 17, 2014. Albert George Grant “Bud” in his 94th year. Predeceased by his wife Norma, after 65 happy years of marriage. One daughter Pamela and her spouse Duncan Ramey, step grand children Tara, Adam (Maria) and Alicia Ramey and great grandchild Spencer Ramey. Dear brother of the late Norman and brother-in-law of Blanche and the late Stuart Land. Dear uncle of Janet and John (Dianne) Land of Victoria, Linda Tunks, Douglas, Gary and Peter Grant. Bud was born and raised in London, ON. He spent 4 years in the Royal Canadian Navy in the North Atlantic as a telegraph operator during the war and was promoted to SubLieutenant before being discharged. He married his high school sweetheart Norma Land on June 17, 1944. Bud worked as a tool maker at the Service Lamp company and later as maintenance manager at Phillips Electronics. A long time member of the Elmwood Bowling Club and a 25 yr Kiwanis member, he cherished the many friends he made throughout the years. After retiring Bud and Norma spent 18 wonderful winters in Arizona, making many good friends while enjoying golf and playing bridge. In 2009 Bud and Norma moved to Strathroy where, after Norma’s passing, he made many new friends and aquaintenences. Many summer afternoons were spent on his porch with his little dog Molly at his side. A very quiet and considerate man, Bud was well liked by all who met him. When asked if he had his life to live over again, he said he wouldn’t change a thing. A special thank you to the CCAC workers Helen and Jan who’s care and compassion for Bud was outstanding. Also to the staff of the SWM Hospital Emergency dept who made is final hours most comfortable. Friends will be received by the family one hour prior (Noon-1:00 pm) on Friday January 31, 2014 at the A. Millard George Funeral Home. 60 Ridout St S, London where the funeral service will be conducted in the chapel at 1:00 pm. Cremation has taken place. Inurnment in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, London following the service. Unexpectedly and with much sadness at Victoria Hospital, on Wednesday, January 15, 2014, Carole (Weegar) Daly of London in her 72nd year. Beloved wife of John M. Daly. Dear mother of Jennifer Daly of Leicester, England, Ryan (Ashley) Daly of London and step-son Jeffrey Daly of Edmonton. Dear sister of Kenneth Weegar of Burlington, Lloyd Weegar of Hamilton, Ron Weegar of Hamilton, Bruce (Jeanette) Weegar of Brantford, Iris Lebleu of Chicago, Illinois. Proud grandmother of Storm, Luke and Teagan Daly. Predeceased by her sisters Diane Greenlee and Joan Lewis, her sisters-in-law Barbara Weegar and Dorothy Weegar and her brothers-in-law Philip Lebleu, Ed Greenlee and Fred Lewis. Loving great-grandmother to Lily, Natalie, Sarah, Lucas and Leah. Dear sister of Lillian Longman, Stuart (Donna) McLinchey, and Sandra (Howard) MacDonald. Also survived by son-in-law Chris Bygden. Thomas George Oliver
OLIVER, Thomas George…
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Thomas G. Oliver on Thursday, January 9, 2014 at the Village of Glendale Crossing, London in his 98th year. Beloved husband of Shirley Ann (Williams) and the late Esther Hudson, Catherine Dunlop and Jean Lawrence. Dear father of Clifford (Mary), daughter-in-law MaryAnne, Sister-in-law Daisey, and survived by five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Predeceased by parents Robert and Nellie, brother Jack and son James. He will be sadly missed by his stepson Harry (Gayle) Dunlop and his adopted families in Sarnia. He will be greatly missed by his nephew and nieces and their families out West. Tom was born in Bexley Heath, England and came to Canada in 1922. He attended Tecumseh and Trafalgar Public Schools and H. B. Beal Technical High School. His first job was with Supersilk Hosiery. In 1941 he joined the London Police Force and in 1946 passed with high marks in forensic science at the Institute of Applied Science in Chicago. In 1943 he assisted in the formation of London Police Boy’s Band. Tom was your friendly and most popular policeman directing traffic at the corner of Dundas and Richmond streets during the war years. In 1947 he joined C. E. Marley Outdoor Advertising and was with them for 33 years until his retirement. Tom was a member of the Kinsman Club and President of the K40 Club. Tom is a life member of St. John’s Lodge No. 209a A.F. & A. M., York Rite and Scottish Rite and served as Worshipful Master in 1956. In 1964 he was Grand Director of Ceremonies of the Grand Lodge of Canada in the Province of Ontario. He is a life member of the London Mocha Shrine Temple. Tom was an avid golfer and curler at the Highland Golf and Country Club, where he served on the Board of Directors in the 1960’s. He played hockey for the Supersilk Industrial League and the London Police Department. He played soccer for Trafalgar School, H. B. Beal School and the London German Canadian Club. His music career started with the Trafalgar Drum and Bugle Corps and later he was in the H. B. Beal Technical High School Orchestra and the Mocha Temple Oriental Band (he was that tall guy leading the parades playing the drums) at that time. Tom enjoyed playing tennis, card games, fishing trips and travelling. He is a life time member of Trinity Anglican Church in Lambeth. At Tom’s request there will be no visitation or memorial service. Cremation has taken place. A private graveside service at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens will be held at a later date. Those wishing to make donations in Tom’s memory are asked to consider Shriner’s Hospitals for Children, c/o Mocha Shrine Centre, 468 Colborne Street, London, Ontario N6B 2T3 or charity of your choice.
