    It is with great sadness the family of Amy Elizabeth Grieve (nee Bowerman) announce her passing on Wednesday, June 20, 2007 at the Dearness Home at age 101. She was the wife of the late Elliott David Grieve who died in 1956. The couple who married August 8, 1934 had three daughters: Shirleyan English and her husband Douglas, Sharon Zeisner and her husband Robert and Sandra Wagner. She had eight grandchildren: David English and his partner Sharon Lindala, Sharon Lee English, Jeffrey, John Zeisner and his wife Victoria, Catherine Zeisner-Boyd and her husband Lennie Boyd, Kim Ziebell and her husband Terry, Kelly Northup and her husband Brian and Ryan McFadden and his wife Kari, There are also eight great-grandchildren: Rolfe, Portia, Amy Elizabeth, Daniel, Sarah, Meaghan, Paige and Cordelia. Amy was born in Tyendinaga Twp., near Belleville on June 4, 1906. After attending Normal School in North Bay, she taught elementary school in Trout Lake near Bancroft and in Northern Ontario schools at Tomiko and Elk Lake. During the Second World War, she founded the Finnish Red Cross in Cobalt, ON. Later, she helped found the Girl Guide troop in Elk Lake. She was a vivacious woman, with great energy who walked three miles a day when she was in her 80’s and was most particular about diet long before that became fashionable. An avid bridge player, she was known for her prodiguous memory, curious brain, great wit and excellent cooking. She travelled a great deal and always remarked that her favourite trip was by ship on the last voyage of the Stefan Batory to Poland and back. When her sight failed at 90, she took to Talking Books with a gusto and taught herself to knit afghans although unable to see. She remained interested in current events, particularly space projects, almost to the end. Visitation will be on Sunday, June 24th from 2 to 4 p.m. at the A. Millard George Funeral Home, 60 Ridout Street South, London. Burial will take place next to her husband at Terrace Lawn Cemetery in North Bay.     Shirley Leona (nee Edwards) – Shirley passed away peacefully at home in the early morning of Tuesday, June 12, 2007, surrounded by the love of her children, her favourite music and the sounds of nature drifting through her window. She was 71 years young. Married for 52 years to Charles Lovell D’Arville, who passed away earlier this year. Shirley was a devoted and loving wife, mother, proud grandmother, daughter, friend, sister and aunt. Predeceased by her eldest child, daughter Corby (2000), and infants Charles Jr. and Debbie. Shirley is dearly loved, respected and missed by her surviving children, Collin and his spouse Elizabeth Day of Barrie, Claire and her spouse Bruce Hawkins of Guelph, Carrie, who made Shirley’s peaceful final days at home possible and Craig and his spouse Aaron Walker of Toronto. Shirley adored each of her grandchildren, Dana, Joshua, Carl, Grant and Elena. The most important thing throughout Shirley’s life was the safety and happiness of her children and grandchildren, and the joy of laughter. An avid gardener, she spent her last years doing her favourite things, nurturing her beautiful garden, cooking, laughing, taking day trips, being with loved ones, and enjoying old and new friendships. Shirley was gifted with a sharp wit and an incredible open, patient and loving heart and soul. Shirley is loved and missed by her many dear friends, among them Shirley Davies and Ann Rising, both of Sault Ste. Marie, and Eleanore Dennison of Ingersoll. Shirley’s children wish to express their deep appreciation and gratitude to Dr. Jeff Spence, Dr. Mark Vincent, Dr. JeJe, Dr. Maria Boldt, Dr. Khanna, the Palliative Home Care outreach team, all the staff in Oncology and the Cancer Clinic at Victoria Hospital, Emergency staff at Victoria and University Hospitals, CCAC, Victorian Order of Nurses, Hospice of London and the many support agencies who helped fulfill Shirley’s last wishes and helped guide her care and treatment. We also thank Archdeacon D. Ian Grant of St. Paul’s Cathedral for his compassion and support over the past several months. A graveside service will be held at Woodland Cemetery on Friday, June 15, 2007. Service to begin promptly at 2:00 p.m. Friends of Shirley and her family are invited to attend.     Frederick Maurice Croke, of London, in his 70th year, passed away at Parkwood Hospital, Saturday, June 9, 2007. Fred was blessed with a family who held him in love and esteem. Fred is deeply missed by his wife, Joy (Curtis) Croke, his daughter Sara Croke and husband Robert Bell of Dundas, his daughter Jennifer Jayapalan and husband Sachin of Toronto, his son John Croke and wife Kate of Milton, and his sister, Carolyn Croke of London. Fred was the grandfather of Jack and Olwyn Bell, and Ella Croke, who will always carry with them the memory of his quiet affection and love. Fred was the beloved son of the late John Croke (1968) and Mary Moore Croke (1997). Fred’s passing is also felt by the Curtis family, who enjoyed his friendship for over 40 years. A resident of London, Fred’s work in road construction gave him a thorough knowledge of this city and the surrounding region. He is perhaps best remembered though, for his love of the cottage on Lake Huron, where he enjoyed a life-long relationship with the lake. Our family would like to thank Dr. R. Dunkerley, the CCAC, St. Elizabeth Health Care, and the staff at the palliative ward of Parkwood Hospital for the gentle attention and consideration which Fred received, as well as our friends and neighbours for their warm thoughtfulness during his illness. The family will receive friends from 2pm to 3pm on Wednesday, June 13, at the A. Millard George Funeral Home, 60 Ridout Street South, London, where the Memorial Service will be conducted in the chapel commencing at 3pm.
