Obituary
D’ARVILLE:
Shirley Leona (nee Edwards) – Shirley passed away peacefully at home in the early morning of Tuesday, June 12, 2007, surrounded by the love of her children, her favourite music and the sounds of nature drifting through her window. She was 71 years young. Married for 52 years to Charles Lovell D’Arville, who passed away earlier this year. Shirley was a devoted and loving wife, mother, proud grandmother, daughter, friend, sister and aunt. Predeceased by her eldest child, daughter Corby (2000), and infants Charles Jr. and Debbie. Shirley is dearly loved, respected and missed by her surviving children, Collin and his spouse Elizabeth Day of Barrie, Claire and her spouse Bruce Hawkins of Guelph, Carrie, who made Shirley’s peaceful final days at home possible and Craig and his spouse Aaron Walker of Toronto. Shirley adored each of her grandchildren, Dana, Joshua, Carl, Grant and Elena. The most important thing throughout Shirley’s life was the safety and happiness of her children and grandchildren, and the joy of laughter. An avid gardener, she spent her last years doing her favourite things, nurturing her beautiful garden, cooking, laughing, taking day trips, being with loved ones, and enjoying old and new friendships. Shirley was gifted with a sharp wit and an incredible open, patient and loving heart and soul. Shirley is loved and missed by her many dear friends, among them Shirley Davies and Ann Rising, both of Sault Ste. Marie, and Eleanore Dennison of Ingersoll. Shirley’s children wish to express their deep appreciation and gratitude to Dr. Jeff Spence, Dr. Mark Vincent, Dr. JeJe, Dr. Maria Boldt, Dr. Khanna, the Palliative Home Care outreach team, all the staff in Oncology and the Cancer Clinic at Victoria Hospital, Emergency staff at Victoria and University Hospitals, CCAC, Victorian Order of Nurses, Hospice of London and the many support agencies who helped fulfill Shirley’s last wishes and helped guide her care and treatment. We also thank Archdeacon D. Ian Grant of St. Paul’s Cathedral for his compassion and support over the past several months. A graveside service will be held at Woodland Cemetery on Friday, June 15, 2007. Service to begin promptly at 2:00 p.m. Friends of Shirley and her family are invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society, 123 St. George Street, London, ON N6A 3A1 or the Canadian Diabetes Association, 442 Adelaide Street, North, London, ON N6B 3H8 would be appreciated. Wings Of The Angels
A gentle wind blew cross the land
Reaching out to take a hand
For on the winds the angels came
Calling out a mother’s name.
Left behind, the children’s tears
Loving memories of the years
Of joy and love, a life well spent
And now to God a mother’s sent.
On angel’s wings, a heavenly flight
The journey home, towards the light
To those who weep, a life is gone
But in God’s love, ’tis but the dawn.
