It is with great sadness we announce: John Thiel, in his 90th year, passed away peacefully on February 5, 2009 at home surrounded by his 3 loving daughters, Lee Ann Lees (David) of Ottawa, Mary Ellen Maasik (Victor) of Vancouver and Susie MacDonald (Russ) of Denver. He will be dearly missed by his cherished grandchildren, J.D., Katie, Michael, Melanie and Charlie. John was predeceased by his adoring wife Ellen and beautiful granddaughter Allison. After serving in World War II, John was involved his entire career in Real Estate and affectionately known as “The Man Who Knew London Best”. John’s incredible zest for living and generous nature touched all who knew him! He will be forever young at heart and in our hearts always! A private family burial will take place in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, London. A memorial service will be held at Metropolitan United Church, 468 Wellington Street (at Dufferin Avenue), on Tuesday, February 10, 2009 at 1:00 pm with Reverend Robert C. Ripley and Reverend Herbert S. Summers officiating. At McGarrell Place Nursing Home on Sunday, February 1, 2009 Norman E. Sanderson of London in his 93rd year. Beloved husband of June (Blewett) Sanderson for 56 years. Dear father of Karen Dickie and her husband John of London. Loved grandfather of Benjamin and Gloria Dickie. Also survived by his niece Noreen Bradfield (Ken) of Florida and great nephews Tim and Andrew Elliott both of Toronto. Predeceased by his brothers Mel and Lorne and sister Gladys. Norm was a Veteran of WWII. He volunteered in 1940 and received his wings in 1941 and was posted to England in May of that year. He joined the Royal Air Force Fighter Command and flew Spitfires and Hurricanes. In 1943 he returned to Canada with the rank of Flight Lieutenant and was posted to Bagotteville, Quebec as a flying instructor for the duration of the war. Norm moved to London after the war and ran a fuel oil distribution business until he retired in 1983. A private family memorial service will be conducted on Wednesday, February 4, 2009 at the A. Millard George Funeral Home, 60 Ridout Street South, London with Reverend Gordon Duncan officiating. Interment in the Mount Pleasant Cemetery, London.
