Marguerite Mary Ursula McGowan
MCGOWAN, Ursula
With her family nearby, Ursula McGowan passed away at Victoria Hospital, London in her 95th year. She was predeceased by her first husband Albert Lenaghan, her sisters Carol Lissemore and Kathleen Gamberg and her brother Earl Robinson. Ursula is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, John McGowan and her children Donald Lenaghan (Wilma), Lorne Lenaghan (Dianne), Peter McGowan (Shirley), Kathleen (Don Blay) and Edward (Bonnie), her grandchildren Karen, Heather, Colleen, Randy, Brent, Brad, Jennifer, John, Katie Anne, Victoria, Duncan and Lucas as well as 14 great grandchildren. She is survived also by her younger brother, Lorne Robinson. Born May 26, 1916, Ursula’s formative years were marked by tragedy and deprivation when her mother passed away at the age of 33. As the eldest of six she took on a nurturing role to the younger children. Rescued from an orphanage by her darling “Granny” and “Daddy” and aunt Madeline Maddox, Ursula frequently recalled the special devotion of these dear relatives. Ursula became a teacher, married her childhood sweetheart and then tragically lost him in the war. A resolute and beautiful widow with two small boys she met and married a kind veteran of the war, John McGowan, who remained unfailingly devoted to her all of her days. Ursula was a gifted teacher with a keen and quick mind. She leaves a legacy of high intellect, independant thought, strong moral convictions and love. Who could ask for anything more? May she rest in peace.
