Beloved husband of Thelma (Andison) Pleiter. Dear father of Michael Pleiter of Calgary, Shelley Pleiter and her husband Carl Kovach of Kingston and Philip Pleiter of Carlton Place. Dear brother-in-law of Barbara Peper of St. Louis, Missouri. Also loved by his grandchildren Raeanne, Jessica, and daughter-in-law Lori of Ottawa. Predeceased by his brothers John and Simon and his sister-in-law Viola. Derk was a graduate of the University of Western Ontario with a PhD in physics, who served overseas in WWII as an RCAF pilot. He had a 30-year career with the Department of National Defence in Quebec City and Ottawa. Cremation has taken place. Peacefully at Aurora Resthaven, Aurora on Monday, June 13, 2011 Isabel (McIntosh) Bamforth just short of her 91st birthday that would have been celebrated on Thursday, June 16th. Predeceased by her husband Lloyd (‘Bam’), son Rae and sister Velma. Loved mother of Gerald of Vancouver, Jay (Julie) of Aurora and Julie (Ernest) Burden of Calgary and marvelous Nana to Jordan, Jenna and Jessa. Isabel was born in Lobo Township, spent her childhood in Ilderton and graduated from St. Joseph’s Hospital (London) School of Nursing in 1942. Isabel and Bam lived in London, Goderich, Hanover and Cambridge making long-lasting friendships along the way. Isabel was active in the Hospital Auxiliaries in all the communities she lived and made significant contributions to those organizations. Isabel was a passionate volunteer with the Canadian Cancer Society for over two decades. She created the Reach to Recover Program and brought it to women throughout Ontario. In her later years with the CCS, she worked tirelessly to restructure the Ontario Division Regions and Units and always did her work with cancer patients on the top of her mind. In 1993 Isabel was awarded the Commemorative Medal for the 125th Anniversary of Canadian Confederation by the Governor General, given to those persons who have made significant contributions to Canada, their community and their fellow Canadians. A graveside burial will be conducted at Woodland Cemetery, London on Friday, June 17, 2011 at 1:00 pm. Peacefully on June 9, 2011, embraced by the love of his family, Kenneth “Ken” Victor Hayward passed away at the age of 85. Adored by his wife of 61 years Shirley Eva (Hanbidge) Hayward. Cherished father of Leanne McGill and her husband Ross Downham, Cheryl Killough and her husband Kevin and Tim Hayward and his wife Denise. Loved and honoured by his grandchildren Tim Killough, Greg Killough and his wife Joanne, Melissa McGill and her spouse Marc Hoffman, Mariel McGill, and Max and Zach Hayward and his great-grandson Alton Hoffman. Survived by his siblings Bill Hayward and his wife Fran, Nan Chin and her husband Ken, and Jill Tucker and her husband Gerry. Dear brother-in-law of Marian Hayward, Sharon Hayward, Audrey Hanbidge, Joan Hanbidge, and Bob Hanbidge. Predeceased by his parents Stanley and Mae Hayward and by his siblings Ruth Gacs, Ted and Dave Hayward, and by his sisters-in-law Helen Dutton and Ida Hanbidge and brothers-in-law Leith and Hank Hanbidge, and Ed Dutton and Lou Gacs. Ken was born and raised in Owen Sound, where he met the love of his life Shirley. An avid sportsman, he played professional lacrosse, loved to fish for trout in the streams in and around Owen Sound and on Manitoulin Island. He treasured his times at their cottage in Providence Bay, fondly referred to as God’s country. Ken served during WWII with the RCAF. He started his career as a railway mail clerk and retired as a postal clerk with Canada Post. He was past member of the RCAF Association, Royal Canadian Legion – Victory Branch and the Heritage Club of Canada Post. Ken always had an amazing sense of humour and taught his family many things including the gift of laughter. He lived life to the fullest and his proudest moments centered around his family. Ken lived by the motto “live well, laugh often, love much”. Cremation has taken place. Friends will be received by the family from 3-5 and 7-9pm on Saturday, June 25, 2011 at the A. Betty Smith
SMITH, Betty Doreen…..Peacefully at Country Terrace, Komoka, on Saturday, August 6, 2011 with her beloved daughter, Lynne Webb at her side. Cherished wife of Kenneth J. Smith. Loving grandmother to Bryan and Allison Webb and great-grandmother to Asa Fletcher Webb. She will be greatly missed by Donald Webb, Katie Ewald, and Adam Kulakowsky. Survived by her brother Robin Hyslop of Wentworth, NS. Predeceased by her brothers Scotty, Douglas, Donald and Maxwell. Betty graduated from the Stratford School of Nursing in 1947 and so began her love of caring for others. Her nursing career proudly continued until the age of 72. Her passions included her family, travel, writing, gourmet cooking and piano playing. Her family will miss her boundless energy, beautiful smile, insightful letters and her words of wisdom. Special thank you to Margaret Keene “her other daughter”, Dr. R. Martin and the staff at Country Terrace. As per Betty’s wishes, cremation will be followed by a private family service.
