  • Emanuel John “Red” Brotzel

    BROTZEL, Emanuel….Surrounded by his family at Parkwood Hospital, London, Tuesday, May 1, 2012, Emanuel “Red” “EJ” Brotzel in his 89th year. Beloved husband of Ingrid (Schupp) Brotzel for 25 years. Proud father of John Brotzel (Gloria Arias), Mark Brotzel, Marita Mailloux (Tom) and Marvin Schupp (Valerie). Cherished grandpa “Red “of Chris and Tara Woods, Trevor McClennan (Deanna), Taylor and Brandon Schupp and great-grandpa of Cadence and Calob McClennan. Dear brother of Nick, Joe (Evelyn), Wendlin (Beatrice), and by his sister Francis Bates (Elgen). Also missed by Alice Brotzel and many nieces and nephews. Red, son of a prairie farmer, came to London as a soldier serving at Crumlin Military Hospital, during WWII, attending injured soldiers. He liked London, and began “Brotzel Construction”, building many fine homes throughout London. In later years he became a well respected Real Estate Agent. Cremation has taken place. Friends will be received by the family from 7-9pm on Thursday, May 3, 2012 at A. Millard George Funeral Home, 60 Ridout Street South, London. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Michael’s Parish, 511 Cheapside Street, London, on Friday, May 4, 2012 at 10am. Interment in St. Peter’s Cemetery, London. A Masonic Service under the auspices of Centennial Lodge No. 684 A.F. & A.M will be conducted at the funeral home on Thursday evening at 6:30pm.   • Reverend Morley Clarke

    Clarke, Reverend Morley Grant ,1921 – 2012

    With deep yearning, yet with the joyful assurance that Morley is now in the eternal care of the One to whom he committed his whole life and ministry, we announce his passing at Parkwood Palliative Care on April 27th. Predeceased by his parents, Francis and Edna (Rikley) Clarke; by his dear sisters: Amelia, Alma, Alice, Dorothy, Norma and Frances; and by his beloved daughter, Brenda Lee Duncan. He was the cherished husband for 63 years of Trudie (Cline). Dearly loved Dad of Grant (Jane) Clarke of Dahlonega, Georgia; Brenda (Reverend David) Duncan of Woodstock, Stephen (Dorothy) Clarke of London and Nancy (Murray) Lahn of Scarborough. Adored by his ten grandchildren: Kristen (Rolando), Shawna (Adam), Juliet, Jordan (Rachel), Tim, Daniel, Heather, Bethany, Jonelle and Esther. Fondly remembered by sister-in-law, Dawn, and brother-in-law, Dr. John Trueman of Hamilton. Also by many nieces, nephews and treasured friends. Morley was a graduate of Victoria University and Emmanuel College in Toronto. In 1948 he was ordained in The United Church of Canada, was married and pursued postgraduate studies at Princeton Theological Seminary, New Jersey. Energy and devotion were poured out on his pastoral charges, Thomasburg – Moira, Port Stanley – Dexter, Epworth in Kingsville and Metropolitan in London. Also during his tenure as Minister of Program for London Conference his creative spirit was given wide scope. Though retired in 1986, he went on to become president of London Conference and to enjoy membership within the warmth of the Byron United Covenant Church family. His gentle, winsome spirit, combined with great strength of conviction, never ceased to have an impact upon everyone he met. Well done, good and faithful servant! Visitation at the A. Millard George Funeral Home, Friday, May 11, 2 – 4pm and 7 – 9pm. A Memorial Service will be held at Metropolitan United Church, 468 Wellington St., London on Saturday, May 12 at 1pm. Cherished Opa of Jason, Anthony (Maria) and Jeff, Kirstin (Jung-Pin), Nicole (Ben), Adam and great-Opa of Skye, Christina, Derek, and Tayden. Dear brother of Shirley Robinson and her husband the late Doug, Barbara Bennett and her husband Mac, Hughie Warren, Rocklyn Warren and his wife Janice, and Carolyn Henwood. Dear brother-in-law of Barbara Wayner and her husband the late Merv, Sharon McEvoy and her husband Hansel. Also missed by many nieces and nephews.   • Shirley Louise (Fahrner) Hoar

    HOAR, Shirley Louise (Fahrner)……

    Died peacefully at Parkwood Hospital on Monday, April 23, 2012, at the age of 88. Shirley was pre-deceased by her husband of 52 years, Louis (Lou). She is survived by her dear son, Rick (Eric) Hoar and his wife, Barbara Hoover, of London. Shirley was born in Detroit, Michigan, and grew up in Crediton, near Grand Bend, Ontario. She was well read, astute and had an amazing sense of humour. She taught us that “Stubborn” was a positive trait. In her day, she was a prize winning golfer and bowler. She enjoyed years of golf at Maple Ridge Golf Course, beating Lou at “his” game, after he taught her the sport. The London Knights and London Nationals have lost one of their devoted fans. Shirley was born 70 years too soon: she would have cherished the challenges and successes young women in sport enjoy today. At Shirley’s request, there will be no funeral service. Visitation will take place at A Millard George Funeral Home, 60 Ridout Street South, London, on Sunday, April 29, 2012, between 2:00 and 4:00 pm. Rick and Barbara will say good-bye to Shirley privately. Burial will take place at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens, London. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Canadian Cancer Society, 123 St. George Street, London ON N6A 3A1, would be appreciated. Thanks to the staff at Parkwood and to the special people with whom she shared her room, especially Jackie and Leslie. Thanks also to all who visited mom during her 6 months in hospital.
