Edith May Waggott
WAGGOTT, Edith May….
Died peacefully in her sleep on Friday, March 26, 2021, at Meadow Park Long Term Care, London, Ontario, in her 87th year. Beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, nurse and friend to many. Her loss is felt deeply and she will be missed by many.
Edith’s large family loved her dearly. Partner in life and heart to the late John Waggott, cherished mother to Keith (Yuridia), Murray, and George (Patricia); loving and dependable grandmother to Grace, Faith and John. She is predeceased by her parents Lawrence and Marian McIntosh, and her sisters Marjorie Titman, Janet Lawson and Sara Stapleford. Survived by her brother Stewart McIntosh and sisters Wilma McIntosh, Bessie Baird, Isabel Marshall, Katharine Marrinan and Joanne Marshall. Edith always spoke fondly of her childhood on the family farm and the virtues of a hard day’s work followed by a wholesome meal. Proud of her Scottish roots, she waived the McIntosh and Stewart clan flags with honour, proving as required that she had learned and lived the motto “Touch not the cat, bot a glove”.
Her proudest accomplishment was to raise her three sons on her own after being suddenly widowed in her mid-30s. She did this with a fierce resolve and support from many, including family and lifelong friends, especially Dollene Rampersaud (best friend from nursing training at St. Joseph’s Hospital, London), Edna Carfrae (neighbour and friend in Oakville) and the “Lodge Ladies”. Edith was just as comfortable advocating to a doctor for one of her patients as she was singing a hymn in a United Church pew, making a quilt, or turning over some “good dirt” to make the rhubarb grow. She always found a way to help others and be content with the blessings she had.
There will be a private family service followed by cremation with interment to rest with her late husband John, at Trafalgar Lawn Cemetery in Oakville, Ontario. As per the directive of the Bereavement Authority of Ontario, all those attending the funeral home are required to wear masks and follow COVID-19 protocols. Donations in memory of Edith may be made to The Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario, 110-1525 Carling Avenue, Ottawa, ON K1Z 8R9 and would be gratefully appreciated. Arrangements entrusted with A. Millard George Funeral Home, 519-433-5184. Online condolences, memories and photographs shared at www.amgfh.com
