GOWDEY:
Dr. Charles W. Gowdey died Wednesday, August 20th of complications from a stroke. He was 82. Dr. Gowdey was a renowned scholar, teacher and researcher whose contributions to the field of pharmacology were widely recognized. Charles Gowdey attended Elmdale School and STCI in St. Thomas. He married Madelon Craig Gilmour (Peggy) of London in 1946, earned his Master of Sciences from Western the same year and a D.Phil. (Oxon) from the University of Oxford in England in 1948. He moved to Canada to work in the U.W.O. Faculty of Medicine in London and was appointed Lecturer in Pharmacology in 1951. He rose to Head of Department in 1960, a position he held until 1981. He will be always beloved and missed by his wife Peggy. He was predeceased by his father William Gowdey, his mother Myrtle, his sister Gladys Payson and his brothers Glenn and Jack. Dear brother of Marjorie Gowdey of St. Thomas. Proud father of David Gowdey and his wife Yvonne Deasy of San Rafael, California, Kathy Gowdey of London, Kevin Gowdey and his wife Sharon of St. Thomas and Sheila Windsor and her husband James of London. Grateful grandfather of James, Caitlin, Samuel, Charlotte, Miranda, Jessica and Claire. Friends will be received by the family at the A.
