PATON — Joyce Adelaide Paton. On April 2, 2006 at the McCormick Home, Joyce Paton, age 84 years, widow of the late Robert James (Bob) Paton, passed away peacefully in her sleep. Also predeceased by her brother Sandy and sister-in-law Marion, sister Jean and brother-in-law Peter Rogers, son-in-law Greg Whitfield, nephews Jim Matheson and Peter Rogers, niece Susan MacIntosh and brothers and sisters-in-law Bill and Pearl Paton, Frank and Lorna Paton, Mildred and Bert Crappere and Marg and Gord Carson. Joyce, oldest daughter of Harry and Lila (Cream) MacIntosh, was born October 16, 1921 in Halifax where she met her future husband Bob at a war-time dance. They eventually settled in London and started a successful plumbing business. Joyce also kept busy raising five children, gardening and doing volunteer work. She was a Girl Guide leader in Hyde Park, member of the Women’s Institute in Thorndale and a dedicated 10 year LHSC gift shop volunteer. Joyce was keenly interested in politics and ran for alderman in London with her nephew Jim Matheson as her campaign manager. She had a great appreciation for music and could be moved to tears by Tchaikovsky’s Pathetique. Joyce took pride in her ability to recite the poetry of her youth and was particularly fond of the verse of Robert Service. She liked to start her day with the crossword puzzle, and frequently challenged her grandchildren to a game of cribbage, scrabble or cards around the kitchen table. Joyce had a special place in her heart for each of her grandchildren. She enjoyed spending time with her sister Joan and on a hot summer day, loved to stop by for a swim in Joan and Hal’s pool. Joyce derived great pleasure from having all her family together and these gatherings of the clan” she initiated will be greatly missed.”

  • Margaret Pearl Powell

    A teller of tales . . . a dreamer of dreams.
    A fountain of fashion . . . a planner of schemes.
Could this be one person? You think it untrue?
Just look again dear . . . for that person was you!
Look back on your life — take stock of the years,
And all you accomplished through laughter & tears.

Remember the children, how they took your hand?
Remember the stories — adventures you planned?
How you nursed us in sickness and shared in our pain,
No thought of reward — no question of gain.

You were a lady of grace, you stood out in a crowd,
Just count your achievements — be thankful & proud!
You always looked to the future — so much to be done,
The joys to be conquered — love to be won!
Kept building your bridges — planning those schemes,
Remember that you were our weaver of dreams.
