Lillian (Caughlin) Cruickshank in her 99th year, passed away peacefully at University Hospital, London, on Monday, April 23, 2018. Beloved wife of the late Robert Cruickshank (1966). Loving mother of Nancy Phillips (Geoff), Dianne Sim, Brenda Baskett, Cathy Moffit and Dale Pineau (Stephen). Cherished by her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Dear sister of Lewis Caughlin (Margaret Ann) and sister-in-law of Bud Lutman. Remembered by her nieces and nephews. Cremation has taken place. The Celebration of Lillian’s Life will be held at A. Millard George Funeral Home, 60 Ridout Street South, London on Friday, April 27, 2018 at 10:30am, with visitation one-hour prior (9:30 – 10:30am). Peacefully at home on Saturday, April 14, 2018, Robert Charles Simms of London in his 89th year. Beloved husband of Irma Lee-Simms for 67 years. Loving father of Markham Simms, Barry Simms (Karen) and Dean Simms (Fiona). Cherished grandfather of Natalie, Taylor and Jamie. Robert was predeceased by his sister Doreen and brother Jack. He will be greatly missed by many wonderful friends. Bob was a long-time London business owner of Burman’s Beauty Supplies. He was a Shriner, a wonderful photographer and a man who had a great appreciation for the arts, music and nature. He had a wonderful zest for life, but the time spent with family and friends over a great glass of wine, good food and conversation was his most favourite. “Bob, you will be so missed, cheers to you!”. Peacefully at home during the evening of Saturday, April 14, 2018, Mary passed away in her 101st year. Beloved wife of the late Thomas H. Gutteridge, CNR Station Master. Dear mother of Thomas Gutteridge, Colleen Ready (Larry) and Maureen Stevens (Jerry). Also loved by her 2 grandsons Nikola and Andrey and her 2 great grandsons Xavier and Wesley. Predeceased by her siblings, Clifford, Frieda, Frank, Margaret, Eva, Kathleen and Norma. Mary worked as a secretary for the CNR during the Second World War in Sarnia. She was raised as a Presbyterian before joining the Byron United Church, becoming a member of the Women’s Auxiliary. Mary spent most of her adult life raising her children as well as foster children including Stevie, Nelson and Brian. Mary rejoined the workforce in various retail establishments throughout London. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service honouring Mary will be held on Friday, April 20, 2018 at 1:00 pm at the A. Millard George Funeral Home, 60 Ridout Street South, London. HIBBERT, Dorothy M.
Peacefully on Friday, April 13, 2018 at Chelsey Park Nursing Home, London in her 104th year. Predeceased by her parents Oswald Hibbert and L. Maud (nee Handford), her brother Handford, sister Ellen Patterson, infant brother Edgar, and nephew, Donald Hibbert. She is survived by nephew, David Patterson (Ivi), nieces Diana Urquhart (late Ron), Dorothy Duncan (Gord), Carolyn Barfoot (Lindsay) and Valerie Hibbert (late Don). She is also survived by 17 great nieces & nephews and 28 great great nieces & nephews. Dorothy was the family genealogist, publishing two tomes: Hibberts of Hyde 1506-1993 and Our Handford Family 1809-1987.
Dorothy was born in Boissevain, Manitoba on January 18, 1915. She graduated as a registered nurse in 1937 from Winnipeg General Hospital. Over the next 20 years she served at W.G.H as lead nurse, teaching and supervising and finally as director of Nursing Services.
In 1958 she joined the Faculty of Nursing at the University of Saskatchewan Administration. She taught two summer programs at the University of New Brunswick in Fredericton, N.B. In vacation times she completed a one-year supervision course at the University of Manitoba and a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree from Columbia University in New York City.
In 1963 she began at the University of Western Ontario in London in the graduate program, progressing from Assistant Professor to Professor to Assistant Dean. In 1977-78 she returned from retirement to serve as Acting Dean. In 1980 she was awarded Professor Emeritus.
Since retirement she travelled extensively with a special interest in field nature. Her other interests included photography, hand crafts and family genealogy.
The family of Dorothy Hibbert wish to thank the 2nd floor nursing staff and caregivers at Chelsey Park Nursing Home for the loving care she had received for the past 11 years. In keeping with Dorothy’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A private family inurnment to follow at a later date. Donations if wished, can be made to a charity of your choice. A.
