Nicolas Abusow
ABUSOW, Nicolas….
Nicolas Abusow passed away peacefully at Victoria Hospital on Sunday, July 29th, 2018, at the age of 93, into the arms of his Lord. Beloved husband of Madlen Abusow for 66 years, and loving father to Alex Abusow (Cathy), Tony Abusow, Maria Abusow-Pas (Gerard), Nick Abusow, Valerie Richards (the late David) and Kathy Abusow (Paul Andrascik). Brother to Alex Abusow, Ivan Abusow and the late Maria Silivria. Uncle to Wesley and the late Leon Silivria. Nick was blessed with many other nieces and nephews in Switzerland as well as 15 grandchildren, and 16 great grandchildren.
He was a true inspiration for those of us fortunate enough to have known him. Born in the Ukraine, he immigrated with his family to Canada in 1956 to begin a new life in London. He was thankful for the opportunities that Canada provided, often saying there is no greater country. Generous with his time and skills, his priorities were his deep faith and providing for his family. He took great pride in his work as a skilled cabinet maker and despite losing his leg and partial sight at 80, he retained his positive outlook and become an accomplished artist. To Nick, learning was paramount. Having endured the hardships of the Stalin era, he repeatedly reinforced the notion that “Education is the one thing that cannot be taken away from you”. To the end, he would fill his time with family, painting and reciting Pushkin. We will miss him dearly and remember him always.
Friends will be received by the family on Tuesday, July 31, 2018 from 7-9 pm at the A. Millard George Funeral Home, 60 Ridout Street South, London. The funeral service will take place on Wednesday, August 1, 2018 at 11 am in the funeral home chapel with visitation one-hour prior (10-11 am). Interment in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, London. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to The London Cross Cultural Learner Centre whose mission is to provide integration services and support newcomers to Canada, 505 Dundas Street, London, ON N6B 1W4.
