  • Reginald “Reg” Fries

    FRIES, Reginald D…

    Reginald Delbert, after a valiant fight, passed away peacefully at LHSC in London, on Tuesday, February 26th at the age of 90. An Old South boy from the beginning, Reg grew up on Southgate Street and attended South Collegiate from 1941-1945. He studied at Western (1947-1951) and earned a degree in Math and Physics. Reg worked for Bell Canada in Sudbury and Montreal (1954 -1967). Upon returning to London, he joined the London Board of Education and taught high school math from 1967-1991. In his retirement, he loved to golf, visit friends and family and take his Cadillac out west. Loving father of John Fries (Juliet), David Fries (Gaynor) and Kim McHugh. Proud grandfather of Jessica (Michael) Paa, Robert Fries, James McHugh and Jack and Marin Fries, and great-grandfather of Caroline and Eloise Paa. Predeceased by his parents Roy Fries of Lions Head, ON and Oneilia Fauria Fries of Louisiana. Fondly remembered by friend and ex-wife Mary Ann Fries, and friends from Highland Golf Club where he was a member for 50 years. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service is planned for April 12, 2019 at A. Millard George Funeral Home, 60 Ridout Street, London at 3:00 p.m. The family would like to thank all the doctors, nurses and PSWs who took good care of Reg at LHSC and a special thank you to Dr. Stocco for her guidance.

    WEST, Lorna Josephine…

    Passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, February 24, 2019 at her residence in her 85th year. Predeceased by her parents John (Jack) and Mabel (nee Winter) West, and brother John D. West. Survived by her sister Lois (James) Gauld, and nephews James (Lori) and Robert. Also survived by great nephews Jamie (Alana) and Geoffrey (Hannah Carter) and great great niece and nephew Emmalyn and Gibson. Lorna was a dedicated employee at GM Diesel/EDS for 35 years. At Lorna’s request, cremation has taken place and a private family service will be held at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, London at a later date. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the staff and residents of Longworth Retirement Residence for their care, compassion and friendship during Lorna’s time with them.     HARLING, Verna Margaret (nee Peters)…
    Predeceased by her husband Garfield, daughter Lois Kelk, granddaughter Susanne Kelk, parents Gerald and Millie Peters, 4 brothers and 1 sister. Verna passed away at home on Saturday, February 23, 2019. She has reached the magnificent age of 96, with her formative years spent on the family farm in New Liskeard, ON. After marriage with Gar and starting their family many moves were made due to Gar’s career with Ontario Hydro. When he retired, they decided to enjoy the Florida snowbird experience for more than 15 years. Returning to full time residence in London they began to learn all about the condo life. After Gar’s passing Verna moved to Chelsey Park and that’s where she remained. She will be greatly missed by her daughter Marilyn other family and friends, but we believe that a new player has just entered the card game. Many thanks to staff at Chelsey Park, Senior Care by Angels, Von E shift and staff with CCAC for their care and support. A memorial service will be held at a later date in New Liskeard, ON.     With peace for him, and sadness for those left behind, the family of Robert Anthony “Tony” Ogden wish to announce his passing at Parkwood Hospital, London on Thursday, February 21, 2019 in his 85th year. He leaves behind his wife Jane, and children Leesa, Heather, Michael and Shannon as well as eleven grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Survived by his brother John (Sue) and brother and sister-in-law Larry and Dorothy Coomber, as well as long time friends Barry and Sharon Beatty. Predeceased by his brother Bill and sister-in-law Valentina. Dearly loved by many nieces, nephews and friends. Tony was an active member of the OA Club and was the past President of the Kinsmen Club of Woodstock. Cremation has taken place. Mass will be celebrated at St. Francis-St. Martin Catholic Parish, 46 Cathcart Street, London on Tuesday, February 26, 2019 at 12:00 pm.     With family at his side, it is with great sadness and much love that we say goodbye to John Fredrick Millerson on Tuesday, February 20, 2019 at University Hospital, London in his 87th year. John will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by his sister Mary and all of his cousins and friends. John was predeceased by his parents, Ted and Myrtle and his brother Ted. John worked at Union Gas for many years and was an active member of its retirement club, “Flickering Flames”. John especially enjoyed a good conversation about stocks or art and liked an occasional round of golf. Friends will be received by the family on Thursday, February 28, 2019 from 10-11 am at the A. Millard George Funeral Home, 60 Ridout Street South, London. A Celebration of John’s life will be held at 11 am in the funeral home chapel. There will be a private family interment at a later date in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, London.     On Friday, February 15, 2019 at The McCormick Home of London, Ruth Anderson Heath of London in her 99th year. Beloved wife of the late H. W. Heath (1985) and the late W. C. Anderson (1974). Dear mother of Garry Anderson (Sara Bariagaber), the late Kirkwood (Rosemary) Anderson, and Gayle (Ken) Foran all of London. Step mother to William and Sheila Heath, Mary and Mike Hughes, Katherine Lambert and Barbara McKay. Predeceased by her sisters Marg Barnard, Betty Roth, Lillian Rowe and Jean Langille and her brothers Robert and Earl McGee. Missed by her grandchildren Jim Noble, Darcy Taylor (Jody), Michael Reidy (Nicole), Mike Anderson, Jodi Anderson, Jamie Bell (Tracy), Kerry Reidy, Jennifer Jackson, Shelley Arrand, Able Araya (Kinsen), and great grandchildren Josh, Mackenzie, Jordan, Christen, Tanner, Taylor, Tegan, Noah, Chase, Ashleigh, Dawnecia, Danielle, Conner, Michael, Carter and Brooklyn.     Peacefully at the Village of Glendale Crossing in her 106th year, Rene Adams on Tuesday, February 12, 2019. Beloved wife of the late Donald E. Adams. Loving mother of Peter J. Adams and his wife Diana and Patricia L. Adams, all of London. Dear grandmother of David Tornabuono and his wife Susan, Lisa Stephenson and her husband Terry, Rose Vlemmix and her husband Ray, Kimberly Misic and her husband Jim, James Adams and his partner Leslie Habib and great-grandmother of Tyler, Shawna, Sarah, Danielle, Kyla and Cole. Predeceased by her 2 brothers Norman and Edwin Nitsche and her 3 sisters Kathryn Tuttle, Maryon Schmidt and Patricia Myers. Fondly remembered by nieces and nephews. Lorena was a dedicated member of St. Martin of Tours. She spent a little over 70 years as a member and past president of CWL and sang in the choir at St. Martin of Tours. Lorena was also a past president of Ladies Section of London Curling Club and a long-time member of Sunningdale Golf and Country Club. The family wishes to extend a sincere thank you to Dr. Andrew Whynot, the countless nurses and PSWs and Reverend Maureen Dwyer for the care, compassion and love that Rene received over the five years she spent at Glendale Crossing.   • Mary MacDonald

    MacDONALD, Mary (nee MacMullin)….

    Mary passed away peacefully in London, Ontario on Sunday, February 10, 2019 in her 100th year. She was born in Sydney, Nova Scotia, the daughter of Agnes (nee MacDougall) and Joseph MacMullin.

    Mary is survived by her four children; sons Roland (MaryAnne), Sandy, Cam (late wife Leslie), and her daughter Kyle and her husband John Franklin. She is also survived by many loving grandchildren, great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

    Mary was predeceased by her husband Sam MacDonald (1978), and all of her siblings from Cape Breton, Nova Scotia; her sister Margaret, and her brothers Hughie, Benny, Jocus, Lawrence and Anslem.

    Mary enjoyed wonderful friendships with so many people across North America. She wintered in Florida for over 30 years, and summered in Grand Bend, Ontario. Many of her friends – both Canadian and American – often came to visit in Ontario. She was a gracious hostess, a devoted friend and a loving mother with a passion for music and life, and she enjoyed a serious interest in politics – both in Canada and the US.

    She spent her working life at BMO Bank of Montreal, and many of her closest friends were colleagues from her early days in Toronto. She enjoyed an extensive network of friends given her husband Sam’s military service as an RCR Captain.

    She will be sadly missed by her friends and family. Special thanks to her family doctor, Dr. Ashtarani and his colleagues in Exeter and Stratford, and the amazing team of Caregivers from Home Instead Senior Care in London for their years of love, attention and care.

    A Visitation and “Celebration of Life” will be organized in June, closer to Mary’s 100th Birthday. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Women’s Community House in London.
