Obituary
DIETZ, Vera…
Vera Dietz, resident of London since 1956, died on May 8, 2026, at the age of 94, at the Dearness Home, London. Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 14, 2026 from 10:00-10:45 am at the A. Millard George Funeral Home, 60 Ridout Street South, London, where the funeral service will follow at 11:00 am. Mrs. Dietz will be buried alongside her late husband in St. Peter’s Cemetery, London.
Vera Colleen Ische was born on September 4, 1931, the first and only child of Howard Ische (1903-1971) and Agnes Connelly Ische (1908-1996). The young family lived in Monkton, Ontario, before moving to nearby Mitchell in 1947. Vera graduated that year from Mitchell High School. She then took a job as bookkeeper at Edighoffer’s Department Store.
On April 27, 1949, Vera was united in marriage to Robert Edward Dietz (1927-1998) of Ellice Township, son of Louis Dietze (1900-1980) and Clara Ristau Dietze (1905-1986). The wedding took place at St. Brigid’s Catholic Church in Logan Township, the parish of Vera’s maternal ancestors ever since their migration from Ireland in the 1840s.
Bob and Vera lived in Mitchell for the first seven years of their marriage, during which their first four children were born. Bob worked as a carpenter and building contractor. He continued in this occupation in London, where they moved in 1956, and where they had two more children.
As the children grew up and moved away, Mrs. Dietz took employment outside the home. She worked in retail sales at Delaney-Dymond Interiors and Guildwood Lighting. Later, as a licensed realtor, she sold residential properties at Royal LePage.
Mrs. Dietz took great pride in her six children, all of whom survive: Paul (Rita) Dietz of Sarnia, a retired teacher best known for his ClubDoc business repairing hickory-shafted golf clubs; Anne Westhues (Ken) of Niagara Falls, Professor Emerita at Wilfrid Laurier University; Glen (Carol) Dietz of London, healthcare and informatics consultant across Canada and abroad; Murray (Jennifer) Dietz of London, principal of Timberfield Roof Truss; Terry (Jill) Dietz of London, retired principal, Callon-Dietz Ontario Land Surveyors; and Rob (Gail) Dietz of Oakville, retired vice-president at CIBC.
Also surviving are six grandchildren: Shanon, Danielle, Kevin, and Michael Dietz of London, Kristopher Dietz of Vancouver BC, and Jonathan Westhues of San Jose CA. Two great-grandchildren survive: Devin and Maeson Dietz. Mrs. Dietz was preceded in death by her grandson-in-law, Gary Seale.
Mrs. Dietz is mourned also by relatives and friends in Mitchell, London and elsewhere, including Mary Dietz, Linda Karlson, Marion Dunleavy, Elaine Regan Nightingale, and Donna Coffield Kelly.
Since breaking her hip and suffering a stroke eighteen months ago, Mrs. Dietz has required much care. Her family gives heartfelt thanks to the staff of the Dearness Home, Walnut Court in particular.
Donations in Mrs. Dietz’s memory are suggested to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada, or to the Participation House Foundation on Colborne Street in London.
