Obituary
Scorgie (nee Brown), Susan Jane
Susan died peacefully at home on August 10 after a two-year battle with cancer. At the end, she was calm and completely at peace. She had lived a full, happy, and rewarding life. She was immensely proud of her children and grandchildren, whom she loved dearly. Susan is survived by her husband Russell, sons Blair (Corinne) and Craig (Kelly), grandchildren Adeline, Elliott and Bram, and sister Karen Cochran (Dave).
Susan was born in Toronto to parents William and Ruth Brown. She lived in Willowdale (North York) before moving to Beaconsfield (Montreal) during high school and later attended McGill University. Sue met Russ one summer, while working in Banff, then later at McGill. Upon graduation, Sue began teaching in Montreal and the two were married.
Several years later, they moved to London where Sue taught in Elgin County. When her sons were born, she dedicated several years to caring for her children. Afterwards, she built a rewarding career in office administration, management and bookkeeping, including at First-St. Andrew’s United Church. Over the years, Sue volunteered for several noteworthy social causes and sat on the boards of directors of William Proudfoot House and Original Kids Theatre.
Sue was active and social. She enjoyed skiing, back-country canoe trips and camping, tennis, badminton, golf, and pickleball. She routinely participated in walking groups, book clubs, and a coffee group. Susan loved to travel, and had the good fortune of venturing throughout Canada, the United States, the Caribbean, Great Britain, and Europe. For many years, she enjoyed family time and skiing in Ellicottville, NY and some winter months in Hilton Head, SC.
She loved her backyard at home, the gardens and the birds, and the sunsets over the lake at Bruce Beach (Kincardine). These were especially important during her sickness.
Susan will be dearly missed. A celebration of her life will be held soon.

I loved Sue for her ever present smile, her fabulous sense of humour and her love of life. Her bravery through her illness was an inspiration to me! I miss her so much! May sincerest condolences to Russ, and family at such a sad time. May the memory of her spirit live on for all of us
I am so sorry to hear of Sue’s passing. We were neighbours for many years and we curled together at Highland for a few years. Rus, having my loss of Perlita last year I know it is a terrible loss for you.
There is no cure for sorrow and I will remeber Sue and her smile.

Dear Russ and family.
I was so saddened to learn of Sue’s death. I remember Sue for so many of the times and activities through FSA. She was a vibrant, friendly and highly competent lady. I know this will be a very difficult time for family and close friends. However, I trust it will be some comfort to know that others are thinking of you all – even here on the West Coast.
My sincere condolences.
Doug
We are deeply saddened by Susan’s death. She was a dear friend and colleague at First St Andrews United Church. I knew her family and cousins from Woodbridge. What a joy to discover that she and Russ and her mother were all members of First St Andrews! As Thomas Moore wrote, ” Long, long be our hearts with such memories filled, like a vase in which roses once were distilled. You may break, you may shatter that vase if you will, but the scent of the roses will hang round it still.” Susan’s life will hang around ours and so many more for a long, long, long time.
With deep sadness, David and Susan McKane
Dorothy and I send our most sincere condolences to you Russ and the whole family. You and Sue have been so important to FSA for so many years. When I was Clerk of Session in the late 80s, Sue was in charge of Social Action activities and her report every month would make me feel so humble. I could not believe that she took the leadership in so many important activities of the church. Her contributions then and later as a member of staff were critical to living up to the church’s full potential. She will be missed.
I am very saddened to hear of Sue’s passing. She was a lovely woman whom I got to know through her job at First St. Andrew’s where she showed great competence and dedication. She will be dearly missed by many. Please accept my sincere sympathy.
Ed and I are so sorry to hear of your loss. She sounded like a wonderful lady. Hugs to your beautiful family. Ed & Lee Link

May her memory be a blessing
Dear Russ. My condolences. My chances to visit with Sue were often sparse and by happenstance and yet it seemed we had talked not five minutes before. Our last meeting was brief. She shared her sad news. I will keep her beautiful smile in my memory box. Judith

A friendship that was spawned over 50 years ago in the hallways of of St. Thomas HS, Pointe Claire QC…the epic 1976 U-haul move from Kirkland QC to London ON… White water rafting on the Ottawa river… Epic canoe portage adventures in Algonquine..The ski cottage in NY.. The crazy Saturday night “theme dinners”… so many memories..Always remembered with fondness..
Dear Russ and family

She was knowledgeable, competent, efficient and always helpful in her determination to be of service in a complex environment.
