Obituary
CARTER, Norris Keane…
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Norris Keane Carter, who died peacefully at his home in London, Ontario, Canada on April 14, 2026, at the age of 95. Born on March 29, 1931 in Bigwoods, St. Elizabeth Parish, Jamaica, Norris passed just two and a half weeks after celebrating his 95th birthday. He was in good spirits the day before and slipped away quietly in the early morning hours.
Norris was the son of the late Hubert Carter and the late Florence Carter (née Blake). He was predeceased by his siblings Willie, Milton, and Ruby, as well as his ex-wife Delacleta Carter.
He is survived by his loving daughters Sharon Carter and Edmarie Carter; his cherished grandchildren Dawson Carter, Hilton Maurer, Cameron Maurer, and Sydney Maurer; and many nieces, nephews, great-grandchildren, and other dear family members and descendants.
Full of life lessons and stories from the old country, Norris worked hard his entire life and took great pride in depending on others for very little- even into his nineties, he insisted on doing everything for himself to maintain his independence. A skilled carpenter like his father before him, he also worked as a chauffeur and gofer in Jamaica. Having grown up with very little, Norris took pride in supporting his children and grandchildren in their academic and professional pursuits – opportunities he never had.
He loved gardening, golf, baseball, and cricket, and remained deeply spiritual and devoted to Jesus Christ throughout his life. Norris met Delacleta in 1956 at the age of 25. Their daughter Sharon was born in 1961, followed by Edmarie in 1962. Delacleta came to Canada in 1963, paving the way for Norris to arrive with their daughters in in 1967. The couple married and settled in London, Ontario. By 1972, they purchased the family home on Wharncliffe Road, where Norris lived for the rest of his life.
He worked as an LTC operator from the 1980s until his retirement in 1996, after which he happily spent his retirement years tending his garden and enjoying time with his four grandchildren.
Norris will be fondly remembered for his quiet strength, unwavering independence, and deep faith. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
