HOWLAND, Mary Glynne…

Mary Glynne Howland (née Godwin) passed away on Saturday, September 20th, 2026 after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease at McCormick Home in London, Ontario.

Born in Toronto, Ontario in 1943, she was the daughter of Robert Glen Godwin and Mary Helen Godwin. Glynne was predeceased by her eldest brother, Robert N. Godwin, and is survived by her loving sister, June Eimers.

Glynne married Robert Glen Howland on April 18, 1964. They shared 35 wonderful years together until Bob’s passing on September 29, 1999.

She spent most of her life in Kingston, Ontario, before retiring to Arden, Ontario. After attending teachers’ college, she found success working for an insurance company in Kingston, working on some of the first computers as a programmer, later as a bank teller and then worked for the Board of Education in the finance department. However, her true calling was being a mother. She lovingly raised her two sons and cared for many other children throughout the years in Kingston.

Glynne is survived by her devoted sons, Robert Howland and Richard Howland (Nadia Bassett), and by her cherished grandchildren, Howwie and Henry Howland.

She was a nurturer, a caregiver, and a kind, generous soul. She was always happy to see friends and family and greeted everyone with her famous warm and inviting smile. Throughout her life, she made countless friends and loved hosting and entertaining family and guests. She enjoyed cooking for others almost as much as she enjoyed sharing meals with them.

Glynne loved all living things. She had many dogs throughout her life and later became a devoted cat lover. She would risk her own safety to help a turtle, or any animal, safely cross the road.

She was always active in social groups, from T.O.P.S. to the Red Hat Society. She attended and organized many weekly meetings and enjoyed the friendships she built through these communities.

Glynne also loved to sing. She sang in the Glee Club, church choirs, and music nights with friends at the local Legion.

But most of all, she loved to dance. She and her late husband, Bob, made the perfect dance couple and won many dancing competitions together. We take comfort in imagining them reunited once again, dancing the jive together for all eternity.
