Obituary
Cullis, Lois Isobel
March 26, 1931 – January 14, 2026
Lois Cullis passed peacefully in London Ontario on January 14, 2026.
She was the beloved sister of the late John A. Cullis and sister-in-law of the late Jean Cullis. She was the Aunt of two nieces: Catherine Jane Hewer (Jim) of London Ontario and their families and Patricia Lee Boyd (Jonathan) of Brampton Ontario and their families.
Lois was born in Mariposa Township near Eden, Ontario and was proud of her heritage as a “tough farm girl”. She taught children for many years for the Durham Board of Education in Oshawa and over several summers completed her Master of Library Science at Drexal University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Reading, attending plays, travelling and enjoying a good meal with friends and family were what she most looked forward to during these years.
No matter where she travelled, she always considered Orillia, Ontario her home. During her retirement years, Lois continued to make Orillia her home base as she travelled to many countries in the world. She gave numerous travelogues sharing her photos and memories of her travels. She was also an active member of University Women’s Club, the United Church of Canada as well as being a regular blood donor. Lois was a voracious reader throughout her life and she considered many people as well as her cherished books as her friends.
A private family interment will be held at a future date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to Cambray Community United Church or the Salvation Army would be gratefully acknowledged.
Arrangements entrusted with A. Millard George Funeral Home, 519-433-5184. Online condolences, memories, and photographs shared at www.amgfh.com

I met Lois before I moved to Orillia as she was a member of the United Church. she introduced me to the “Lois Club” as my name was Lois ! After I did moved to Orillia she took me out and introduced me to the” Retired Women’s Teachers”d and I became involved with them. She aways loved to travel and share her stories and pictures with everyone. Rest in Peace Lois!
Although I never met Lois in person I had many animated phone conversations with her following her move to London. As a longtime member of CFUW Orillia she was dynamic and so interested in what was going on with the CFUW Orillia club and the town of Orillia. It was excited to arrange for her 45 years of service rose to be delivered to her, during COVID, to her residence in London. Lois spoke with pride about earning her Masters in Library Science from a university in Pittsburg and being called by a fellow classmate ‘that angry Canadian!’ When her niece wrote a Munsch-style book for her 90th birthday she read me excerpts of it during another phone conversation. I reflect on a life well lived and hope that her loved ones can treasure the memories of Lois.
Our deepest sympathy to Catherine and Patricia on the death of your beloved Aunt Lois. She was a cousin to our Mom’s Dad, and always interested in family history, and getting together with our family. When we moved to Orillia, Lois and I often chatted at our local CFUW meetings. I will always remember her wonderful smile and energy. Take good care, Anne.
Lois was a friend of my mother, Joy McIlveen as they attended Regent Park United Church, and then she became a friend of mine. I attended Durham College for one year, and she was my wonderful “mode of transportation” between Orillia and Oshawa many times during that year. As I moved away from home, we were not in contact as much, but my husband and I always looked forward to Lois’ Christmas card and poem recap of her year. Seeing her name and the lovely photo brings back many fond memories. My Mom and I pass along our sincere condolences to Catherine and Patricia. She was a wonderful woman and is missed.
