Obituary
McClenaghan, David Gordon
Of London, Ontario, unexpectedly but peacefully passed away on March 2, 2026, in his 57th year. David was born in London to Thomas and the late Martha (2018) McClenaghan.
From an early age, David experienced physical, developmental, and health challenges. Despite these struggles, he made the most of his circumstances with perseverance and good humour (usually). He was truly a kind, unique, and interesting individual who pushed himself to connect with people and to live life to the fullest, always on his own terms.
David graduated from Saunders Secondary School, attended the Chisholm Academy, and later Sheridan College in Oakville. He experienced pride and fulfillment in his work at Tuckey Home Hardware, and his family would like to thank Dave Tuckey for giving him that opportunity.
David was proud to have lived independently for over twenty five years and developed many meaningful relationships with his neighbours and other community members in Old South and around the city. He had a wide range of interests, including riding and caring for horses, cycling, raising lovebirds, reading, strategy board games, computer games, and painting intricate miniatures. A huge fan of Star Wars, Star Trek, Warhammer, and many other science fiction and fantasy worlds, these stories and universes deeply captured his imagination. David always had a witty and distinctive sense of humour and never hesitated to use it to good effect-often when least expected.
Throughout his life, David was supported by many, many people-too many to name, but all deeply appreciated. His family recognizes that it truly took a whole village. Most recently, Family Services of Thames Valley helped provide connections to two very important people in David’s life. Especially appreciated was Ryan, who, in addition to his amazing support, offered true friendship and meaningful connection to the wider community. David also deeply valued his connection with Melanie; her friendship and support meant so much to him. Thank you as well to Betsy, and to the staff and residents on the 3rd floor of St. Mary’s, for welcoming David and helping him settle into his new home.
Our David will be greatly missed by his large and loving family. His Dad, Thom; his sisters Erin (Warren Helland) and Kate (Tom Rigglesworth); and his brother Andrew (Roxanne Regier), along with their spouses, feel his loss keenly. He was a much loved uncle to Thomas, Samuel, Evelyn, Jacob, Elizabeth, Ruby, Anna, Isla, and George. He will also be dearly missed by aunts, uncles, and cousins across Canada and the United States, as well as by friends near and far-especially his best friend, Rob, in the United Kingdom.
“Death is that state in which one exists only in the memory of others… which is why it is not an end. No goodbyes. Just good memories.”
– Tasha Yar, Star Trek: The Next Generation

So sorry to read of David‘s passing. My condolences to his family. I fondly remember the times in my youth when my family would visit at the McClenaghan’s house. David would usher me down to the basement and we would spend the entire visit playing strategy board games. His expansive knowledge of the games always impressed me and his imagination drew me into the worlds he had created. We lost touch when I moved away for university and then overseas. It was so nice to reconnect with him over FaceBook these past years. Love the quote by Tasha Yar. I was fortunate to have known David and will carry those good memories with me always. 💐🚀
Dear Thom and Family
I am sorry to hear about David’s passing. My thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult time.
Dear Thom, Erin, Kate, Andrew, Warren, Tom, Roxanne and Family
We are saddened to hear about David’s passing and would like to extend condolences to the whole family. He was a wonderful part of our childhood (Craig & Colleen) and the time that our families spent together at home or camping. With a great imagination and shared love of Star Wars, G Force and the like we so looked forward to our visits with the McClenaghan clan where hours of play and imagination made time pass by in a moment. We would hide in the basement or upstairs trying to stay as late as possible avoiding the calls from our parents that it was getting late and time to go home. As an adult it was heartwarming to see the special connection and closeness that David shared with Mary and Wayne. Hold your memories close to your heart and cherish all that David brought to your lives and others. Martha will welcome him home with a big hug. Our love & sympathy, Colleen & Jason
Dear Thom and Family
We were very sad to hear about David’s death. It was a wonderful school year I spent with David in his grade 8 year. I learned a lot about perseverance (I think I called him stubborn a few time), celebrating differences, being amazed at how he problem solved, sense of humour (he nailed me with a few zingers at times), and just enjoying what a unique person David added to my life. Every teacher, person should have a David in their lives. Good bless him, you, and the family. John and Linda
David….an astute observer of human nature. I appreciated our chats when we’d “cross paths in the path”. May knowing that he is now in God’s everlasting care give you solace now, and in the days ahead.
I am so sorry for your loss of David. He was such a great person and he will be deeply missed. Sending condolences to all his family and supports.
