Obituary
JONES, Carole…
It is with profound sadness that Evan Jones says goodbye to his devoted and much-loved mother, Carole.
Carole Jones died on Saturday, August 31, 2024, at Oak Terrace, Orillia, in her 88th year. The only child of Carl and Audrey Dilamarter, she was predeceased by her husband, Derwyn Dixon Jones (2005), the ninth Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Huron. She is survived by her son, Evan; her daughter, Paula (Pierre); and her god-daughter, Hilary Anderson.
Carole lived an unassuming life centred around her family, the Church, and her deep appreciation of music and literature. Her early years were spent in Windsor, Ontario, where she was raised, educated and taught secondary school. All of this changed one Sunday morning in Church when she caught the eye of the new bachelor priest who had recently been appointed to St. Barnabas in Windsor. Marriage soon followed and during their honeymoon in Muskoka, they fell in love with a small property near Dorset where they would later build a cottage and centre many of their family’s life-long memories.
After living in Windsor and Brockville, Carole, Derwyn and their young family moved to London, Ontario, where they put down roots. Since the deterioration of her health in 2017, Carole has been lovingly cared for by the staff of Grandwood in London and Oak Terrace in Orillia, where she was faithfully visited every day by Evan.
Cremation has taken place, and a private graveside celebration of life will take place at a later date in spring 2025. Memorial gifts may be made to St. Paul’s Cathedral Memorial Fund, 472 Richmond Street, London ON N6A 3E6; The Primate’s World Relief and Development Fund, 80 Hayden Street, Toronto ON M4Y 3G2, St. James Westminster Anglican Church Foundation, 115 Askin Street, London ON N6C 1E7; or Humane Society London & Middlesex, 624 Clarke Road, London, ON N5V 3K5. Arrangements entrusted with A. Millard George Funeral Home, 519-433-5184. Online condolences, memories and photographs shared at www.amgfh.com

My condolences Evan and Paula on the passing of your mother. To you Evan, your parents would be bursting with pride and admiration as you walked, played and endured caring for your mom as she journeyed through dementia. Having cared for my mom I also admire the great care and comfort you were for your mom. May you fill the empty hours cherishing the memories and taking pride in how you embraced and imbued the essence of human love. Sorry for your loss.
Dear Evan and Paula.
My sincere condolences on your Mom’s passing. It’s hard to believe that it’s been over 50 years since we moved in next door on Chiddington Ave. Many conversations with both your parents took place over the back fence. Carole was quiet and reserved but always had a smile when we spoke. May your memories together be a comfort to you in the days ahead and the knowledge that she has been reunited with your Dad in heaven. Blessings to you both!
Dear Paula and Evan. I was very sorry to learn of the loss of your Mom. My sincere condolences. Caregiving our aging parents is both challenging and rewarding. May you be comforted by many happy memories of all the love shared. I’m grateful for the fond childhood memories I have of time spent with your family in London, and at the cottage. Blessings, Karen
Evan, Annette and myself want to extend our deepest condolences to you at this time of mourning. We know how much of a truly dedicated and loving son to your mother you were. You always spoke so fondly of her and always took time out of your life to spend with her no matter how much of a drive it was or what you were doing! I’m sure your mom was so proud and overjoyed to have had you as a son.. well… Most of the time anyway! Haha here’s hoping that you always maintain the love and fond memories you’ve always had and let those help you get through this very difficult time. If you need to come to Muskoka for a drive, let us know and we will make you a nice dinner!!! We miss our neighbour!!!
Dear Evan & Paula:
Words don’t seem enough to express our thoughts to you both at this difficult time, with the loss of your mom. Our condolences, as you move forward and through this difficult time. Hopefully your many memories of her, over the years and especially at Dorset will help along the way.
Hadn’t seen your mom for several years, but we too have many fond memories of her both her in London and at the cottage.
I was very sorry to read about Carole’s passing. I first met Carole when we were both volunteers at St. Paul’s in London. Carole and I worked together helping to prepare lunches for people in need. Her gentle, pleasant manner made the work much easier for us.
