Obituary
FERGUSON, Alison “Cricket”…
Peacefully with her children by her side at Parkwood Institute, London, Alison “Cricket” Ferguson passed away on Sunday, April 14, 2024 at the age of 75. Beloved wife of the late James “Jim” Ferguson (1994). Loving mother of John Ferguson (Erica) and Kelly Ferguson. Adored grandma of Blaise, Maggie, and Charlie. Cherished sister of Anne Munroe (Alex). Dearly loved aunt of Brendan Munroe and Ian Munroe (Kimberly Gale). Great-aunt of Winnie Munroe.
Alison, AKA the Queen of Elworthy, was an exceptional woman. She pursued many hobbies, but her love of gardening and landscape is what she was best known for. Many beautiful garden beds throughout Old South, as well as a few public schools were designed and brought to life by Alison. Known as “Cricket” to some, she enjoyed biking, reading and sitting on her front porch to see her many neighbours walking about. As a child, she enjoyed spending time at her family cottage in Muskoka, which is where her love of water and gardening sprouted. She was a proud South Lion and took great pride in planning and organizing multiple South Secondary reunions. Alison will be missed by all who had the privilege to know her.
Family and friends are welcome for visitation on Thursday, April 18, 2024, from 3:00-5:00 pm and 7:00-9:00 pm at the A. Millard George Funeral Home, 60 Ridout Street South, London. The Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday, April 19, 2024, at 1:00 pm in the funeral home chapel. For those unable to attend, the service will be live streamed on the AMG Funeral Home YouTube channel. In Alison’s memory, sympathy donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation, 1200-2300 Yonge Street, Box 2414, Toronto, ON M4P 1E4. Cricket was one of my very best friends when we were little and throughout elementary school. She was so much fun. We were together constantly – living only two houses apart – getting into trouble, spying on our older sisters, playing games and laughing. My most sincere condolences to Allison’s family. I am so sorry for your loss.
Jeremi and I and the “girls” (as Cricket so kindly asked of them whenever we saw her) will miss our kind and welcoming neighbour. We are so sorry for your loss. We will hold space for you here at our home and in our hearts. Jeremi, Amanda, Bella and Georgia. And her buddy Yogee.
Kelly, John, Erica and family: My heart goes out to you. I enjoyed navigating high school within the same circles as Cricket and Fergie. It was a large and inclusive group thanks, in part, to the fun loving and generous nature of these high school sweethearts. A true delight over the last seven years however, has been to have my friendship with Cricket grow into a much richer, deeper and more appreciative one. Her initiative to organize a luncheon for the ’68 Women of South spawned virtual but regular gatherings of a “Group of Seven”. It was delightful to hear her express the great joy she got from being with family and how proud she was of your accomplishments. I admired her ability to nurture all living things – people and plants. She was a master at tracking down and mobilizing people in support of worthy projects such as reunions. Cricket had the wonderful ability to laugh at herself and so set the tone for each Group gathering as she wrestled with the lighting and technology needed to have us see her! Cricket, your laugh will truly be missed but you will always be part of the Group of Seven. Sincerely, Lyn Shulha, Professor Emerita, Queen’s University, Kingston On
I remember Cricket’s efforts with the Arthur Ford Nature Park. She saw nature as a wonderful place to learn. Always kind and helpful – she was a key member of the nature park team. Quite a legacy.
I knew Cricket many years ago when her husband Jim and I worked together at the Mazda dealership. Both Cricket and Jim were such lovely and kind friendly people, I no longer live in London but have often thought of them over the years..I am sure it was a long and painful time for Cricket, losing Jim at such a young age.
John and Kelly, both of whom I remember as small children … your folks are together again … you will miss them, I know. Rest assured that others are thinking of you … may God be with you and give you His love, peace and the comfort you need right now.
We were shocked to learn of Alison’s illness and passing. How very sad for her family and friends. Alison had such an infectious smile. She will be missed!
My most sincere condolences to the family. I grew up living next door to Alison and followed her into South and also crossed paths with her husband “Fergie” who coached my midget hockey team. Later in life Alison was a fixture in my mother’s life as she worked to help her tend to the ever expanding gardens. She was a delightful personality and I know she will be missed by many.
I was so sad to hear the news of Alison’s passing. My sincere condolences to her family for their loss. I knew Alison when I was at South Secondary School. She was a very kind and genuine friend to so many of us who got to know her. I always admired Alison for the way she took an interest in people and how she always went that extra distance to make someone feel good about themselves. A few years ago, I reconnected with her when she was helping to organize the reunion of the 1968 graduating class. It was a total pleasure to speak with her. We spent some time on the phone catching up on the times that had gone by. Again, I am so sorry for the family’s loss and may her memory be nothing but a blessing to them
Alison shared so much wisdom of responsible care of the environment. Her dedication and hours of work in Arthur Ford Nature Park are remembered with gratitude.
We send our deepest condolences and prayers to the family. We didn’t know Cricket well but her sunny disposition and kindness shone through to all who met her. Thinking of you at this very difficult time. John & Roberta Reardon
Elworthy neighbours will miss Cricket immensely. She was such a positive being who always had the time to chat whether on her porch, working in her gardens or driving by with her bicycle at the back. I’ll still be looking for her when out for walks. Heaven has gained an angel.
I remember her sly humor and warm enthusiasm. A lovely person I was happy to know. Her commmunity will miss her. Sending sympathies.
My dad (Jim Campbell) read Alison’s obituary in the paper. He was saddened of the news of her passing and wanted to send condolences to the Ferguson Family on behalf the Campbell Family.
We have know “Cricket” for over 30 years in the Old South neighbourhood. We are sending our thoughts and prayers to the family and friends. God bless and see you later. Keith and Anne Lawson.
I was very saddened to hear of Alison’s passing. She was a very special person and will be missed. My sincere condolences to her family.
I knew both Jim and Alison from our high school years and got reconnected in the mid-seventies.
Over the last several years, it has been a pleasure to communicate with Alison as she provided significant leadership to the last two major high school reunions and in tracking down many classmates.
Over time your strength and resiliency, will embrace the special memories in celebration of her life, her contributions to family, friends and her connected community.
Sincerely
Fraser Stewart
