Obituary
McMILLAN, Rick…
Peacefully with his wife by his side at St. Joseph’s Hospice, London, Richard “Rick” McMillan passed away on Thursday, July 22, 2021 in his 64th year after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife, Sue and his stepson Darin (Alicia) and his granddaughter Vayda. He will be missed dearly by his brothers Greg (Susan) and Chris (Anita). Predeceased by his parents, Joyce and Duncan McMillan. Rick was a man who truly loved his sports. He was an avid golfer, bowler and fan of the Detroit everything’s! Whether it was the Red Wings, the Lions or the Tigers, he was always their supporter. After growing up in the Sault, Rick’s career took him to Windsor where he worked at a sporting good store where he also refereed OHL hockey games. This allowed him to support his Detroit teams a little more. He later switched paths and worked at Cami Automotive where he made many life long friends. Cremation has taken place. Family and friends are invited to a visitation on Saturday, August 7, 2021 from 12-2 pm at the A. Millard George Funeral Home, 60 Ridout Street South, London. I am so sorry for your loss Sue and your family. I worked with Rick at CAMI for many years and he was an amazing friend. Always positive and he always made me smile.
Sue, Gale and I are so sad to hear of Rick’s passing. We understand how hard he fought back against the cancer. Every time we talked he was always so heartening and positive … as he was all through his life. I think that was one of qualities that made him so enjoyable to be around. In the early years it seems I was the “family photographer” – see early picture of him riding the toy horse. When he was still very young, I was away to college and subsequently moved to Florida. But with each visit back we always shared time. The last for me was in Ottawa two summers ago when he came up to join Greg and me in a round of golf – see picture. He looked so good we hoped he was through the worst of it. Going to miss him very much. He was kind, thoughtful, and caring of those around him. He was a very special nephew and will be dearly missed, Love Uncle Rick and Aunt Gale.
Our prayers go out to the family at their lose. Rick will be missed.
It was unfortunate, and sad, to hear of Rick’s passing, and to know how difficult it must have been to see his decline, especially over those last couple of months; my condolences to you Sue. Rick is a real good guy, and we lost him way too soon. I recall fondly those visits we made to London a few years ago, where we were all gathered together in your nice backyard.
Being almost of the same age, I have so many memories of Rick from our early childhood days; too many to begin to re-count. In our pre-school days, we lived very close by, and Rick would often stay at my house; we virtually grew up together. Rick was more of a closest friend, as opposed to a nephew (certainly none of our friends or classmates in school thought of us as being uncle-nephew). And in the years since, he proved to be a very kind, hard-working, positive guy; one of the most decent and best persons there was, and always there, ready to help when needed. I am going to miss not being able to have anymore chats like I shared with him last December, or to sit at a pub together over a couples of beers. He was indeed one of the best and will be truly missed; someone the world has lost much too early. To Rick….. from Uncle Robert
My deepest sympathies to Sue and your family. Rick was an absolute true blue gentleman. He will be incredibly missed but always remembered.
