Obituary
EDMUNDS, Hugh P.C. …..
1932-2021
Passed away peacefully at Kensington Village Retirement Home on Sunday, March 21, 2021. Dearly loved husband of Doris (2016), and beloved father to Angela (Chris) McEwen, and Brent (Diana) Edmunds. Adored Papa to Megan, Stephen and Rachel McEwen. Predeceased by his sister Elizabeth Collins (2000), his niece Gloria White (2012), and his parents Hugh and Margaret Edmunds. Hugh was a proud employee of the London Free Press (1948-1993) working in the Stereotype, Circulation, Mail Room, and Advertising departments. In his retirement he volunteered at the Canadian Cancer Society for 10 years as a co-ordinator for the Volunteer Driver Program. Hugh spent his childhood summers at a family cottage in Port Stanley, Ontario. He had the privilege of returning to this area in the summer of 2020 on a road trip with his two children, and daughter-in-law. He reminisced about spending his summers barefoot on the beach, setting pins up at the bowling alley, and being a bus boy at the Stork Club. Hugh & Doris enjoyed traveling, bowling, and fellowship with many friends at Compass Community Church. He could be found having a coffee with his friends every morning at Tim Hortons on Highbury Avenue. He cherished his friendships and spending time with his family. His smile and sense of humour will be missed by the wonderful staff and his friends at Kensington Village. Many thanks to Dr. Dan Leger for his care. Visitation will be held at A. Millard George Funeral Home, 60 Ridout Street South, London on Friday, March 26, 2021 between 7:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. and on Saturday, March 27, between 12:30 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. Please Note: as per the directive of the Bereavement Authority of Ontario a limited number of people are able to attend. Please call the funeral home between 9am and 5pm to reserve your spot for the visitation (519-433-5184). All those attending the funeral home are required to wear masks. A private family funeral service will be held. Interment in Robin’s Hill Cemetery, Thames Centre, ON to be held at a later date. As an expression of sympathy, donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation, 110-1525 Carling Avenue, Ottawa, ON K1Z 8R9. Online condolences, memories and photographs shared at www.amgfh.com

I knew Hugh when he was at the Cancer Centre. I worked with him arranging the rides for the patients. He always had a smile and was great to work with. Am sorry to know that he has gone. He was a great guy
We are so sorry to hear of Hugh’s passing. I remember him as a humble and cheery man. He definitely loved bowling & Doris & together they raised two very kind and loving kids.
It was good to see him a few years ago when Brent brought him up North during a dog show competition.
His kind spirit will be missed.

My sincere condolences to the Edmonds family.

We are so sorry to hear about Hugh’s passing. He was such a sweet man and so funny. We will miss him at the family reunions. Prayers and lots of love to all. Lexie and Matthew
Wanted to pass along condolences from Maureen and I. My mother, Kathleen (nee Otway) wanted to say sincerely how he was a very kind person, always eager to help, and a true gentleman.
I think those characteristics are truly reflected in his photo. May he rest in peace, knowing his legacy will live on.
To Dear Angela, Brent and family
We are sad with you at the passing of your Dad/Papa and our Uncle Hugh, but we rejoice with you in a life that was well-lived.
We will remember Uncle Hugh as a kind, gentle man who loved and cherished his family and friends and who was loved and cherished in return.
We will remember his gentle sense of humour, his little jokes, his teasing comments and his proud dad and papa stories about the antics and achievements of his kids and grandkids – both 2-legged and 4-legged! He loved you all so dearly!
We will remember his giving spirit – his volunteer work at the Cancer Society and later at Kensington, greeting people, making them feel welcome and delivering the mail.
We will remember a man who enjoyed the simple things in life – a good bowl of cereal, a tasty bowl of soup, a drive with his family, a Tim Horton’s coffee with friends.
We will remember his spirit of adventure – despite health issues, he was up for a trip, a drive, an adventure. We were so happy and impressed that he was able to join us at the family reunion in Calgary in 2019!
So, as we say good bye to our dear Uncle Hugh, we will give thanks for his presence in our lives, for the examples he gave us on how to live a full, loving and decent life, and for the legacy he has left in his amazing children, grandchildren and in all whose lives he touched.
We have been blessed. And now, he is at rest with his beloved Doris.
Angela, Brent and family, as always, you are in our hearts, our thoughts, in our prayers.
Much love,
Joanne, Scott and Blake
Hugh and Doris were members of the church that I attend here in London. One of my memories of Hugh was each Sunday morning he would have a new joke to tell me. He loved to make people smile. I also remember him sharing with me how much he enjoyed being the “mailman” at Kensington Village Retirement home after he moved in.
Praying for his family as they mourn his death.
