McFARLEN, Kara…
It is with unimaginable sadness that the family of Kara Brooke McFarlen announce her passing peacefully in her sleep on August 8, 2020.
Long-time partner of Tim Assing, daughter of Brydon and Judy McFarlen, Daughter-in-law of Mervyn and Diane Assing. Sister-in-law of Nicole and ShIrvin Saroop. Sister of Lauren McFarlen, special Aunt to Brandon, Blake, Chase, Sawyer, and Sivan. Special niece of Jill Wilcox and Tom Bogart , John Wilcox and aunts Cathy, Rae and Eleanor and uncle Dean from British Columbia.
Kara was born in London on August 23, 1977 and attended Cartier Public School followed by South Secondary School where she was an outstanding student both academically and in athletics.
After attending both the University of Western Ontario and Fanshawe College she entered into a career with the Ministry of the Solicitor General as a probation and parole officer, where she worked tirelessly to help those less fortunate.
Kara had a passion for life that was infectious. She was loved by a wide circle of friends, greatly respected by all those in her profession and was known for her incredible generosity and wit.
Our hearts and spirts are broken, but remembering the unbridled spirit that was Kara Brooke, she will remain with us forever.
“Life is not measured by the breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.”
Cremation has taken place and a small family celebration of Kara’s life will be held.
At the family’s request, in lieu of flowers, contributions in Kara’s memory may be made to the London Food Bank or the Humane Society of London & Middlesex. Arrangements entrusted with A. Millard George Funeral Home, 519-433-5184. Online condolences, memories and photographs shared at www.amgfh.com

I have known Kara for what seems most of my life. I have very fond memories with her from elementary and high school. It was a pleasure running into her at the mall and catching up on Facebook. She had an infectious personality and she was always so full of life and vitality. I send my sincere condolences to the family during this difficult time. May her memory be Eternal.
The news of Kara’s passing has made me so incredibly sad. Attending the same school and growing up on the same street, I have so many fond memories with Kara especially during summer months. Biking from house to house and around the neighbourhood, playing in basements, swimming day after day at Kara’s neighbours. It was a simpler time with cherished memories. Every time I would see Kara in my adult life she was always so happy, positive, full of energy and it was like we were back to the good old days. I am so sorry for your loss. May Kara’s memory be eternal. Sincerest condolences to Kara’s family and all her friends.
May you be comforted by memories that you will hold in your hearts forever.
I am so shocked and saddened to hear of Kara’s passing. I have been lucky enough to know her since elementary school. Kara has always been a force of positive energy, kindness, leadership, and strong character. I know she has touched so many lives; that smile is unforgettable.

I played basketball with Kara and will always remember her kindness and welcome when I joined the team. She was always someone I could laugh with on the court. My love and prayers are with her family at this time.
Kara there are no words to describe the impact you made on my life. I cannot believe you are gone because there are so many things I wish I could have told you. You are and will always be very special to me. I will never forget you and your love for life.
I was only in the presence of this beautiful, dynamic
woman a handful of times through my sister in law Charlene and was fully impacted by the news of her passing. The world is now without a glowing sparkling Energy that will be missed every day.
As you find the strength and courage to bear the loss of Kara we hope you will get peace and comfort knowing others truly care.
Judy Brydon, Lauren and family.
You have our heartfelt condolences during this unbelievable challenging time. Our children have very fond memories of Kara as they all grew up in the same neighbourhood and went to school at Cartier. May your family memories help in the coming times.
Tim and family, Brydon, Judy and family:
I’m so sorry for the loss of Kara.
She was a vivacious and generous woman that I’m honoured to have known. Please accept my most sincere condolences. I will cherish the memories.
I worked at Dairy Queen with Kara in the 90s, and was also a floor mate with Kara’s dear friend Steph Gould at the University of Windsor. When I realized the two of them were friends, it made sense to me as they are both beautiful, funny kind and smart. Kara and I were born one day apart, and referred to each other back in the day as “birthday twins”. To imagine that someone so young and vibrant is gone is unfathomable. True condolences to her family, friends and Steph as well.
I can’t imagine the unimaginable loss you are all facing. Kara was a beautiful soul inside and out. She welcomed me with open arms when I joined to play basketball on a team I didn’t know anyone on. Her and Charlene were also so kind to me and always made me feel like I had known them forever. I just moved back to London and was hoping to reconnect with that team again. Please accept my heart filled thoughts and prayers. Kara was loved by many and will be greatly missed

Like everyone who knew Kara, we were devastated to hear the news that someone so full of life and love could be gone so suddenly. We met Kara at Fanshawe (in the best CCPR class ever 😉 and feel so fortunate to have many happy memories of her, including countless years of catching up on life in her line at the lickbo. Kara was a shiny, happy, magnetic soul and we are better people for knowing her.

Hocked and saddened to hear of the sudden passing of Kara. I had the privilege of completing my first Social Work placement at London East Probation Office in 2002. This is where I met Kara and learned so much from her. She taught me about inherent dignity and worth of all persons. She taught me about being genuine, compassionate and understanding while holding people accountable. 4 months. 18 years ago. I have never forgotten her. That is the impact of Kara.
My deepest condolences to Kara’s family and friends and those whose lives she impacted by just being her.

Brydon and Judy…so sorry to hear of the passing of your beautiful daughter Kara. My thoughts are with you at this time. Memories are everything.
A ship sails and I stand watching till she fades on the horizon, and someone says, ” she is gone”.
Gone where?
Gone from our sight, that is all; she is is just as large as when we saw her…..
The diminished size and total loss of of her sight is in us, not her, and just at that moment when someone says, “she is gone”, there are others who are watching her coming, and other voices take up a glad shout, “here she comes!”……..
Your memory will never fade, see you on the other side…
Love always
Our words cannot express the sorrow we felt after hearing about Kara’s death. Our sincere condolences to Kara’s families and many close friends. May you treasure the wonderful memories and may these help to get you through this difficult time and help to ease your pain.
As a colleague of Kara’s I watched her evolve from an inquisitive and smart Probation Officer who sought my assistance to a person who offered me guidance and taught me a greatdeal about compassion. But more than just an excellent colleague she was a kind, sensitive, funny person who put others first.
I will remember her as one who always wore a smile, and would always bring one to my face. She will be greatly missed.
Judy and Brydon, my deepest condolences, there’s no words to express the sadness you’re family is going through.
My prayers are with you both.
Hugs ??

I know that Lionel would have been first to welcome her at those heavenly pearly gates. RIP Kara.
