Doug, you were a wonderful and very loving friend when we both moved to London as newly weds forty years ago. We will always treasure your friendship and our great times together.May you rest in God’s eternal love and peace. We love you.
Doug was a true friend. A kind of person that would literally give a shirt off his back for anyone in need. We spent countless hours sitting in the backyard chatting about nothing, and every single one of those conversations was heartfelt. I’m going to miss you my friend. I feel that I’m a better person just from knowing you.
Our sincerest condolences to you all for your loss. The space he will leave can never be replaced and no doubt he will leave a big space behind. We had the pleasure of meeting Doug on a number of occasions and we remember him as a very warm man with a bright smile. Sending you peaceful thoughts during this difficult time.
Sending love and comfort to you and yours Kim. Grateful this long and painful struggle is behind your dad..Xo

We were very sad to hear of the loss of your special brother, Kathy and Neal. Such a sad year for the whole family.
Dear Muriel, Dave, Mike and Kim
I am very sorry to hear of the passing of Doug. I have many fond memories of him from my childhood and into my adult years. His watchful eyes helping to mitigate what ever mischief us boys were getting into in the neighborhood. Know that your family is in my thoughts and I hope this time is eased by your own memories you cherish of a husband and dad and a friend.
With Sympathies

It’s been a long time since we have been in close contact, however we still talk about and remember the times we spent together in our young lives just starting out on life’s journey. Please except our deepest condolences and hope the future will bring better times to all who grieve his passing.
Sending sincere condolences to Doug’s family. You are in our prayers at this time.
Dear, Muriel with children Kim, Dave and Mike and all grandchildren.
Wonderful, but painful memories are engraved in my memory after the care I provided to your husband, father and grandfather. The several months I knew Doug seem like long years. Doug’s stubbornness and relaxing sense of humour masked his real insight of the unknown that was ahead of him. We talked about the past and the future, which brought us closer and closer together, not as a patient and caregiver, but as friends. I humbly say thank you to Doug and his family for appreciation and the trust you all put in me. However, my role as Doug’s caregiver is not over. As per Doug’s request, he will always be in my prayers.
Though no words can take away the pain of losing a loved one, I only hope that time will heal the wound of losing such a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend to many.

My sweetest Dad-in-Law. Thank you for being such a sweet, loving, funny, kind Father-in-Law. I have missed you, and will hold you in my heart forever.
I hold such wonderful memories of spending time just hanging out with you. And the fun times we spent in Mexico and Ontario. I am blessed to call you Grampa to my two beautiful children who you, so gratefully, provided me with so much help. Especially when they were babies. Thank you for the bottle feedings, diaper changings, and the love you gave us all. We couldn’t have done it without you and Muriel.
I have so many fond memories of you that I carry in my heart.
Loving me enough to share both your laughter and your pain, our slow walks with Stoli and Teya and sharing life stories, both happy and your trust in me, enough to also share the pain.
Your convictions to your children unshakeable. That is what an amazing father does, no matter the circumstances, you stood fast for your children. Enveloping them in love, trust and support. I truly commend you for this, you were an exceptional father and father-in-law.
Thank you Doug for making my life better. I was blessed to call you Dad.
May you find peace and truth Dad.
Much love,
Susan Bertling
