It was my pleasure to meet Velma several years ago when she needed someone to pet sit Tippy, and later Maggie. As all her friends and family will know, Velma was wonderful with her dogs. Velma was also a good friend to me, and we had many a lively conversation about politics, right up until our last visit shortly before her passing on. Her sharp mind and interest in current events did not wane, and she enjoyed discussing the news. Her independent spirit and clear mind did not diminish with her age, and hers was certainly a life well lived.
My aunt Velma was a wonderful person, strong and practical, clear minded and opinionated. We loved to discuss politics, especially the state of the economy, and she was fully informed of the issues in Canada and the US. Her humor and insight were refreshing and we had many good laughs.
Velma was the first person after my parents to hold me, and all my life she made me feel loved and special.
Words from Ellen’s husband, Graham:
I loved Velma’s spark, so glad she accepted me as part of the family. I share her love of big powerful cars and would love to take her for a spin in my Crown Vic. Police Interceptor. Happy motoring, Velma.
Aunt Velma was truly an honest, straight out, tell it like it is lady who enjoyed life and lived it to the fullest every day.
We can all learn a lot by living life as she did.
