SAUER, Roland Erich…
It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Roland Sauer at age of 94 on Saturday, October 20, 2018, surrounded by his family. Beloved husband of Margot Sauer for 70 years! Cherished dad to the late Roswiter, Virginia Clark (the late Bill), Roland Sauer (Marilyn), Frank Sauer, the late Rikada, the late Angelica, Anita Sauer (Wendy), Sonja Dibsdale (Dan), Harold Sauer (Jackie) and Rob Sauer (Tiffany). Devoted Opa to 16 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. Caring brother to Lisa Niegch (the late Heinz) and the late Hilda Meier (Georg). Roland was born in Kemnitz, Germany. At 17, he enlisted in the army where he drove a tank in WWII. He immigrated to Canada with Margot and 3 of his children where they resided in Strathroy. Later after moving to London, he worked at O-Pee-Chee Candy Company where he helped to create the machine that made hollow gum balls. Roland and Margot shared a love for gardening and spent hours together in their yard. In keeping with Roland’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday, October 27, 2018 from 1-4pm at the Eastern Star Temple, 800 Fanshawe Park Road East, London. Arrangements entrusted with A. Millard George Funeral Home, 60 Ridout Street South, 519-433-5184. Online condolences, memories and photographs shared at www.amgfh.com

Dear Margot and Family: Thinking of the entire Sauer family at this time and sending our condolences. As I think about Roland, I recall his great sense of humour and laugh and of course his love of soccer and willingness to play keeper whenever he was needed. Unfortunately I will not be able to attend the celebration of life but will be thinking of you.

Dear Opa, Dear Dad, Dear Rolf, Dear Pops, Dear Roland
Holy smokes Opa….
Thanks for the memories……
You made stuff from scrap like that old freezer shed
You had great ideas stored up in your head.
You loved to play games and you stretched rules a lot
You just pleaded innocence if you got caught.
Margot would say … now that isn’t nice.
When you went out of turn without thinking twice
You cross country skied with the kids in the yard
You made it look easy… “This isn’t hard!”
You taught people lessons…and shared your advice
But that stinging nettle sure wasn’t nice.
You loved soccer a lot and watched games galore
When one game was done you watched it some more.
You liked the outdoors….you gardened for fun
You made 73 become number one!!
You fixed up the house…you added so much
You worked really hard and added your touch.
You loved Tennessee….you met a deer
It ran away…startled with fear.
You spoke of the goose step and you puffed out your chest
Raising your children…now that was the best.
You liked to charm people….you would just speak your mind
Most people laughed…..they were usually quite kind.
You were married on New Years… you were proud as could be
You loved Oma dearly…we could all see
So go rest in peace…you will be missed as you know…
Holy smokes Opa….
Thanks for the memories……
We are so sorry for your loss. You are in our thoughts and prayers.
