Obituary
CROWELL, Rev. Dr. George Harvey, (87) beloved husband of Donna Beneteau Crowell, father of Sarah (Mary), Beki (Sherman), Joanna, Daniel (Melanie) and Mary Beth (Shawn). Dearly loved grandfather of Chaz, Noah, and Kai Evans; Holly Crowell; Neo James; and, Emma and Zoe Crowell. Predeceased by parents Anna and John B. Crowell. Survived by brothers John, David, and sister Cathy Mann and their children.
George graduated from Princeton University and Union Theological Seminary (NYC). Ordained a Presbyterian Minister, he moved soon to teaching social ethics at Lake Forest College and the College of Wooster before joining the Religious Studies Department at the University of Windsor where he taught social ethics until his retirement. He focused on issues of peace and justice, environmental protection, racial harmony, and, for the last 20 years, on the necessity for a change in monetary policy as essential for a just society and the preservation of the social safety net for all Canadians.
He was a dedicated activist supporting the work of many social justice organizations including the London and District Labour Council, The Society of Christian Ethics, the Council of Canadians, the Committee on Monetary and Economic Reform (C.O.M.E.R.), and a remnant community of Christ Church at Maple View Terrace in London.
George expressed great gratitude for all the care he has received from so many dedicated health professionals and for our Canadian Health Care system which he worked hard to support and enhance through Monetary Reform.
A memorial service will take place on Monday, August 20, 2018 at St. Michael and All Angels Anglican Church, 397 Springbank Drive, London, Ontario, N6J 1G7. Visitation begins at 10:00 AM and the service begins at 11:00 AM with a reception to follow.

Dear Donna:
I express my sympathy at the loss of your (very distinguished) husband George. I will pray for him and for your family. God bless.
Richard
Donna, sorry to read in today’s Windsor Star of George’s passing. We have fond memories of meeting him only a few times but were left with solid feedback on a good man. We wish you well to continue in life remembering him as well as the other members of your family who have also passed, people that you and I both knew and cherish their memory. Dorothy and I wish you God Bless.
Dear Donna,
I was saddened to learn of George’s passing. I certainly do wish to pass on my sincere condolences during this very difficult time.
Unfortunately, one of the drawbacks of my former career in Canada’s Foreign Service was that, due to the sometimes thousands of kilometres that separated me from friends and persons I considered to be mentors, I too often lost touch with too many good people over time. I considered George to be both a friend and a mentor.
As the former chairperson of Windsor’s INDEEDACT/Third World Resource Centre, George provided me with excellent guidance and wisdom during the initial period of that NGO. He didn’t just preach social ethics but he practised it to the full. He remains no doubt a shining example for all those who came in contact with him during his lifelong commitment to social justice.
I do wish you and your family the best.
To my dear friend Donna …Time
may have separated us but you, George and your family have often been in my thoughts and prayers. I am so sorry to hear of the loss of this compassionate man, husband , father and friend to so many. George touched the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him. Know Donna that you and your family are with me in Spirit at this time.
My thoughts and prayers go out to all of you in George’s family. George imparted much knowledge with regards to our monetary system combined with a great sense of social justice. He had a big heart combined with a bigger love for mankind. I will miss him, as I know many others will too.
Dear Donna, Sarah, Beki, and all of George’s family: Please accept my most sincere condolences on your loss. George’s contributions to civic life and human inquiry will continue to bear fruit through the generations.

My heart opens in honor of this special man and the wonderful tapestry of souls he guided into our world… Thank you for seeing a different way, speaking your truth and for shedding light on so many.
I was graced only to meet you several times in person but feel connected through stories from your beautifully gifted children that were always full of the miracle of life and death, laughter and tears, joy and laughter.
This is one of my favorite poems and reminds me of everything i’ve ever heard of you. Blessings along your journey…
Belonging
by Alla Bozarth
The small plot of ground
on which you were born
cannot be expected
to stay forever
the same.
Earth changes,
and home becomes different
places.
You took flesh
from clay
but the clay
did not come
from just one
place.
To feel alive,
important, and safe,
know your own waters
and hills, but know
more.
You have stars in your bones
and oceans
in blood.
You have opposing
terrain in each eye
you belong to the land
and sky of your first cry,
you belong to infinity.
Blessings of love,
Adaire ( Beki’s eternal friend ) from Ohio
Dear Donna,
I was so sorry to hear of George’s death although I knew he had been ill for several years. He struggled on teaching us and showing us how to live to the very last. I was very fond of George and admire him always. He and Vito were examples of social justice activists, and I learned from them. You will miss him, such a gentle and compassionate man! I wish you comfort and peace.
Lovingly, Joan
