Obituary
DAVIES, Sheila Margaret (nee Whittemore) …
On Sunday, August 27, 2017, at the Dearness Home, London, Sheila Margaret Davies Sr. in her 93rd year. Beloved wife of the late Douglas MacKenzie Davies. Dear mother of Ian Whittemore Davies and his wife Kay of London, ON and Kenneth Gordon Davies and his wife Sheila of Bala, ON. Loving grandmother of Julianna, Keefer, Joshua and Tylere Davies. Sheila (along with Douglas) was the founder (1970) of the Children’s International Learning Centre in Hamilton, ON that teaches school age children respect for all people and our common environment. Along with Doug, Sheila’s lifelong commitment was to better the lives of others through her tireless volunteer work, philanthropy and support of humanitarian causes, children’s education and wildlife conservation (in particular the work of Nature Canada – founded by her father Reg in 1939). Sheila’s favorite place was the family cottage on Lake Muskoka. Together, Sheila and Doug generously supported the arts, children’s charities, the Centre for Peace Studies at McMaster University, and their churches (MacNeill Baptist Church in Hamilton, and Bannockburn Community Church in Muskoka). The family will receive friends for a visitation one hour prior (12-1pm) to the memorial service which will be held at A. Millard George Funeral Home, 60 Ridout Street South, London, on Saturday, September 2, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to the Children’s International Learning Centre, 189 King William Street, Hamilton, ON, L8R 1A7 or Nature Canada, 85 Albert Street, Suite 900, Ottawa, ON, K1P 6A4 or Bannockburn Community Church, Box 101, Bala, ON, P0C 1A0. I am very sorry to hear of the death of your Mother/Grandmother. She was a very special person and I have many happy memories of her. She worked very hard over the years to promote peace and understanding and was an inspiration to us all.
With deepest sympathy!
I am so sorry to hear of your mother’s passing Ian, she must have been a remarkable woman.
I was very sorry to hear of your loss, Ian, of such a dear loved one. You were so lucky to have been raised and loved by such caring and wise parents. I know there will be a great void in your heart. Sending hugs and prayers.
Thinking of you at this sad time Ian. It was an honour to know Sile and to be able to sing for her over the years. She was a remarkable lady and will be at peace now with your dad. Love and deep peace. Heather.
Sincere condolences to the Davies Family. Sheila founded the Children’s International Learning Centre in Hamilton. We will continue to carry on the spirit and vision she inspired, teaching children about other cultures and religions.

Having met Sheila, we know that she was a very accomplished but dear, modest soul. She was kind and giving with us and I’m sure everyone she met. She has left a beautiful legacy.
Condolences to Sheila`s family. Reading the obituary in The Hamilton Spectator reminded me of the wonderful work Sheila did at The Children`s International Centre. My Grade 5 students had many happy learning experiences there.
Ian, my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at this sad time. She was obviously and incredibly caring and generous lady. She will remain in your heart and memories forever.
What a lovely remembrance Ian. This is a full rich life and someone who will be missed by those who love her. Wishing love, peace and condolences to all.
Love to Ian and his family during this time. So sorry for your loss.
I am so sorry to hear of your mothers passing, she was a wonderful person
Deepest condolences to Ian, Kay and Julianna, Ken, Sheila and boys at this sad and difficult time. Sheila was the sweetest, kindest person ever, who lit up the world with that wonderful smile. I feel very privileged to have worked as her companion at Dearness Home. Go in peace my friend. We will miss you greatly.
Dear Ian,
On behalf of myself and my family I offer my deepest and heartfelt condolences on the passing of your mother. I feel your grief having myself lost my own dear mother a year ago. I regret I couldn’t make it for her meomorial service as I was out of town, but I will be sure to have her memory and that of your father’s commemorated in tomorrow’s Sunday mass. I will also pray for you and your family that you will be comforted during this time of sorrow. May her memory be everlasting! Ana Lopes-Petryk and family
