I was sorry to read about the passing of Vera in today’s Hamilton Spectator. It has been years since I have seen her but have fond memories of her visiting my grandparents farm, usually accompanied by my Aunt Vera Cummings. I remember her as being very friendly and always interested in all of the things around her.
Vera and I were neighbours on Elworthy Ave in London for many years. There are countless stories and memories of day to day living side by side all of those years. Vera was such a gracious, social and kind spirit that touched my life by her presence and by her example. A memory that makes me smile is that she frequently kept her kitchen door propped open in warm weather so that my cat Muffy, (Vera’s devoted friend), could wander inside for a long visit and maybe a little nap before letting herself back out again. I feel very Blessed to have known Vera for such a long time, and feel sad that she has passed. She will always remembered.
