POLLOCK, Jackson:
Peacefully at University Hospital, London on June 14, 2016, Jack Pollock of London in his 96th year. Beloved husband of the late Elizabeth “Liz” (Kirkpatrick) Pollock. Dear father of Julie (Nicholson) Pollock of London; John Pollock and his wife Catherine of Trumbull, Connecticut; Gary Pollock and his wife Shawn of Craighurst, ON. Loved and cherished grandfather and great grandfather of Kasia and her husband Cam and their children Ewan and Emery; Nathaniel and his wife Margo and their children Rilla, Lachlan and Alexander; Michael and his wife Kristen and their children Adelaide and soon to be born son; Kacey and her husband Jake; Bryanna, Jordan and Patty and their children Annika and soon to be born daughter; Chris Pollock and Katie Pollock. Dear brother of Robert A. Pollock of Barrie; Edward “Ted” Pollock and his wife Jean of Bobcaygeon and Mary Ellen Crowe of Grayslake, Illinois. Predeceased by daughter Cathy Olejnik; sister Muriel “Lola” Wilson; sisters-in-law, Jean Pollock and Doreen Pollock, brothers-in-law, Art Jackson, Ross Wilson and Murray Crowe. Jack will be missed by several nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Also loved and missed by Melanie Williams. Jack served his country as a Field Artillery Officer, 2nd division, in WWII through France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. He served the Province of Ontario as volunteer Chairman of Blood Procurement for the Red Cross of Ontario and was awarded the Queen’s 25th Anniversary medal for his efforts. Along with 4 or 5 of his neighbours, the group started a Sunday school in one of their recreation rooms. Soon after, the group was holding services in Riverside Public school. On March 5, 1957 Jack wrote a letter of invitation to all residents of Oakridge Acres to join the group, which led him to being a founding member of Riverside United Church. He was also involved in the formation of the Kiwanis Club of Thames Valley. He will be remembered for his love of carving in bass wood, Canadian wildlife, starting after his retirement, continuing until 2015. A sincere thank you to the staff at University Hospital Emergency Department and 7th floor impatient unit for their kind compassionate care. Family will receive visitors at A. Millard George Funeral Home, 60 Ridout Street South, London on Thursday, June 16, 2016, from 7 – 9 pm. Memorial Service at Riverside United Church, 695 Riverside Drive (at the corner or Riverside and Dunedin Drive), London, ON N6H 2S3 at 11 am, on Friday, June 17, 2016. As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 123 St. George Street, London ON N6A 3A1 or Alzheimer Society of London – Middlesex, 435 Windermere Road, London ON N5X 2T1, Riverside United Church – Memorial Fund.
