Obituary
VAUGHAN, Winnifred Louise…..
Peacefully on January 15, 2016, at peopleCare Oakcrossing. Winnifred Louise Vaughan in her 97th year. Winn was predeceased by her parents Frederick and Helen (Smith) Vaughan and her sisters Mary Vaughan and Margaret Vaughan. Lovingly remembered by her “honorary” nieces and nephew Susan, Kathy, Carol and Greg of Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. She will be greatly missed by her many friends in both London and Nova Scotia, especially her London friends/caregivers Anne, Karyn and Marlene. Born in Port Williams, Nova Scotia, Winn graduated from Acadia University in Wolfville, Nova Scotia with a Bachelor of Science degree. She took her Dietetic Internship at Toronto Western Hospital. Winn was Head Dietitian at Brantford General Hospital from 1942-1954 and held a similar position at the hospital in Galt from 1954-1961. In 1961, Winn became Manager of Dietary Services at London Life Insurance Company and held that position for 22 years until she retired in 1983. Winn was a founding member of the Registered Professional Dietitians of Canada. She was a long time member of St. James Westminster Anglican Church. Winn belonged to the Highland Country Club for many years where she shared her love of golf and curling with the many friends she met there. Winn was a very social lady and enjoyed the company of both her lifelong and new-found friends. With some of these friends she went “birding” at Point Pelee for 22 years. In addition to enjoying bridge games with her friends over the years, Winn had a true joy of travelling and was fortunate enough to visit over a dozen different countries. In her retirement years, Winn took oil painting classes and had several of her paintings on display in her home. Winn had a wonderful sense of humor and an extremely positive attitude, both of which she maintained even when dealing with a number of health and mobility challenges in her later years. Special thanks to the staff of Grand Wood Park who helped Winn live life to the fullest during the six years she lived there. Thank you also to the staff of Red Oak, peopleCare Oakcrossing, for the good care given to Winn during the past year. Friends will be received by the family one hour prior (10:30 – 11:30 am), to the memorial service at St. James Westminster Church, 115 Askin Street, London, ON N6C 1E7 on Friday, January 29, 2016 at 11:30 am. As an expression of sympathy memorial donations may be made to Heart & Stroke Foundation, 180-633 Colborne Street, London ON N6B 2V3 or St. James Westminster Church, London. A. I have known Winn since 1950 and served with her on an Ontario Dietetic Association Committee, I also took over her job at the Brantford General Hospital in 1954. I kept in touch with her until a few years ago when I lost track of her.I have made a donation to the BGH Foundation for the palliative care area in her memory.
I worked with Miss Vaughan at London Life and she always had a smile for you. She was a great boss/supervisor with Mrs Cook. I ran into her several times birding at Pt Pelee and shared a bird or two.
I am sorry for your loss. It is difficult to deal with the loss of someone so dear to us. 2 Corinthians 1:3,4 reminds us that God is always there to comfort us. I pray this helps you and your family find solace.
