We will miss you Uncle “Rugie” We will cherish the memories over the years of countless family gatherings. We are all so sad, but we know that you are now with Auntie Dale as well as Baba and mom, Olga who I am sure is cooking you up a batch of pyrogies and cabbage roles.
On behalf of all of your friends and colleagues at OBEA I would like to offer our condolences Erich. Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this sad time.
Mr. Specht, as I first knew him during my practicum at Beal, was a no nonsense, tell it like-it-is man. Later, when you got to know Rudy, you could not ask for a better mentor. Rudy was genuine and sincere. I know many will miss him. Rest in well-deserved peace Rudy.
On behalf of my family, we express our deepest sympathy, Erich, to you and your entire family on the passing of your dad. Know that our prayers are with you at this time.
Our family is keeping your family in our thoughts and prayers.

Erich – I am so sorry to hear that Rudy passed away yesterday. I have such fond memories of him and the few years we spent at Beal together. My thoughts are with you.
We were saddened to hear of the death of your father (father-in-law, grandpa). It is difficult to lose such an important figure in your lives. He will no doubt continue to live on through his children and grandchildren and will be forever missed by those whose lives he touched. We will keep your family in our prayers.
Mr Specht was awesome! I think about him often. I had him as a teacher at Beal for computer programming in the early 1990’s. He once told me “You are going to make a lot of money someday.” I think he saw some potential in me. 🙂
I ran in to him about 8 years ago in Chapters, but didn’t get a chance to talk to him before he left the store. He was a great teacher, and a an even better person. He had faith in us. He even got me an interview that let to my first “real” job – Salaried and still in Gr 12/OAC. I use what he taught me daily.
He was very special. Thank-you to Rudy’s family for sharing him with us.
One of my favorite teachers at H.B. Beal while I attended in mid to late 80s.
I have many fond memories of Mr. Specht. His motivation, knowledge and guidance has led me to where I am today for which I will be forever grateful.
My sincerest condolences to his family and friends.
My sincere condolences to the family and friends of Mr. Specht. An amazing man, caring human and a fantastic teacher. He was the teacher for me who made a difference not just to school life but life in general. Thank you Sir for all your kind words, your endless help and guidance to make me the person I am today. May you rest in loving peace.
May God keep you safely in his love and peace, Rudy. Thank you for being part of my memories of Beal. My years of teaching at Beal were greatly enhanced because of your friendship and support. Take care my old friend, until we meet again.
Rudy was a “great guy”.
He was always kind to a younger music teacher on the Beal staff. I remember once he did not want us to sing Christmas carols at his door as it struck too close to home for him. Nevertheless, he did not send us away, but invited us all in from the cold for a lovely chat. What class!
God bless and comfort you all at this time and whenever you remember him.
My best to Rudy’s family at this time. He was an advisor when I was on student council in 87. We had many talks and he helped me in so many ways both on the council and as a person. I have thought about his help and wisdom many times over the years….. He was always advising whether he knew it or not…. and did a wonderful job.
My condolences to Rudy’s family.
As a fellow teacher I am forever grateful to Rudy who, after a casual staff room conversation, approached me the next day with excellent advice which set my son on a very successful career path. I am sure the careers of untold young people have been launched because of Rudy. Goodbye, old friend.
My condolences to the Specht family. “Mr. Specht” was such a dynamic teacher at Beal in the 70’s. His passion for his students was remarkable and he pushed them to be their best; he was a great teacher. He influenced my career choice in IT and helped get me my first IT job, part-time, while I was attending high school — I am still at it today nearing the 40 year mark. Thank you Rudy.
We taught with Rudy at Beal and he’ll always be a part of our Beal memories. A terrific teacher, he helped so many students reach their potential. Rest in peace, Rudy. Our sincere condolences to the family.
As a former student of Rudy’s, my heart feels heavy upon reading of his passing as Rudy was not only my teacher but a friend too. On several occasions, I have had the pleasure of Rudy’s company while sharing a drink … OK, maybe two.
When I think of Rudy, I can picture him sitting at his desk, wearing his brown corduroy jacket, looking at my computer printout, asking “What happens if …?” and then encouraging me to go find out. That was Rudy. Gently pushing and guiding. As others have attested, Rudy was also a mentor and instrumental in influencing numerous students into pursuing a career in the IT field and helping them land interviews for their first job; you can count me amongst them.
To the family, please accept my condolences on the passing of a great man.
To Rudy, here’s one last Fortran program:
