Obituary
ROBERT MCLEOD, B.A. — Passed away peacefully in his sleep on Wednesday, April 22, 2015 at home, in his 77th year. Bob was the beloved and loving husband of almost 55 years to Marilyn McLeod (nee Shaver) and will be dearly missed by his children Heather Lord (Jim), Janet Wortel (Ron), and Cathy Thompson (Richard). Deeply saddened are his six dearly loved grandchildren Ian and Liam, Marechal and Ava, and Alyssa and Ryan. Bob’s big laugh and warm heart will also be missed by his siblings and their families: Ken (Catherine), Margaret Hodgins (late Grant). Predeceased by his parents Bob Sr. and Win McLeod and his brother Norm McLeod (Norah). Many are the true friends he made and with whom his memory remains. Living all his life in south London, Bob served always to improve the lives of others, as a scout leader, at Calvary United Church and in his Glen Cairn neighbourhood. No matter a person’s age or stage, Bob took great pleasure in listening to and helping others. He thoroughly enjoyed his students as a woodworking teacher during his career as well as his hobbies of sport hunting dogs, fishing, and reading on the porch of his Kincardine cottage. As an avid naturalist, Bob helped to ensure the protection of water and air quality in the Pond Mills area through community action. In 2013, Bob humbly accepted a Queen’s Jubilee Medal for lifetime community service. Even one week before his death, Bob attended as a volunteer, a Glen Cairn Resource Centre event, riding as always, in a vehicle big enough for his woodworking projects. Cremation has taken place. Friends will be received by the family from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Thursday, May 7, 2015 at the A. Millard George Funeral Home, 60 Ridout Street South, London. A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 8, 2015 at 1:30 p.m. at Calvary United Church, 290 Ridout Street South, London ON N6C 3Z1, with Reverend Kenji Marui officiating. Interment in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, London. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to Prostate Cancer Canada, 2 Lombard Street, 3rd Floor, Toronto ON M5C 1M1 or Calvary United Church. Such a lovely man. How his laugh could fill a room. I knew him, as his Mom, Win worked with my Grandpa and Mom at the flower shop during holiday seasons so many years ago. May he rest in peace
Bob, you were one great guy and very passionate about muskie fishing and the conservation of this fish. We’ll miss you at our meetings and other events. You truly were a gentle man and a gentleman. On behalf of the Kitchener – Waterloo Chapter of Muskies Canada, our prayers and condolences go to your family and friends.
I was deeply saddened to hear of Bob’s passing. He was my woodworking teacher and homeroom teacher at Westminster S.S. from 1972 to 1975. He also lead the school’s model rocket club, of which I was a member. It is because of him that I have a great love for woodworking and construction techniques- in fact, I had considered it as a career choice until music teaching won out. Yet I still love to build, refinish and restore cabinets and furniture, thanks to him. I still have the furniture I crafted in his classes to this day, and continue to use the skills he taught me after forty plus years. Thank you Bob!
Bob, Here what were really you you!
I only knew Bob through Muskies Canada and a few great fishing trips with him, he will certainly be missed. A great person with a great heart! My deepest sympathies to his entire family!
I was very sorry to learn of Bob’s passing. My late mother, Shirley Hunter, was a long-time member of Calvary United Church, and Bob was her “elder” for many years, visiting her at her house when she was no longer able to attend church and then, later, at her retirement residence. She spoke highly of Bob and always enjoyed and appreciated his visits and their conversations. My condolences to Bob’s family. He will certainly be missed by all those who benefited from his volunteer work and his kindness.
Spent one of my favourite days on the water with Bob. It was cold and the fish weren’t biting, but the company was great!
Thank you again for that day Bobbie. I can’t tell you how much you helped when I needed it the most!
I’ll miss you my friend…
Bob and Marilyn were generous enough to open their home to me while I worked in London for my university co-op job. Bob was a great conversationalist – one of those rare guys who could talk on a wide variety of topics. And as others have wrote, he had a great booming laugh which reminded me so much of his brother Norm. I know Bob was a great source of strength and support to Scott and Leanne after the loss of their parents and I know how much they truly appreciated and loved him. My deepest condolences to his family on the loss of a great man.
Bob was at Westminster when I taught there. He was a superior teacher and fine person. I remember that Bob and his students built the sets for 8 plays that we produced there. Bob was always the same-kind, patient and skilled. I know that his students learned far more than woodworking from Bob.Those were the days my friend.
I knew “Mr. McLeod” from my time as a Wildcat… however – got to know “Bob” as a neighbor. Nemo will miss his pets, and I will miss our conversations. My sincere condolences to the family.
I am so saddened to hear of Bob’s passing; my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.
Bob will be truly missed; he has left special memories with our Glen Cairn Community.
My deepest sympathies are with your family at this difficult time. Although I didn’t know Bob well, he always had a kind word and made me feel very welcome at Calvary Church. He will certainly be missed.
Marilyn and family – you can only imagine my shock to see Bob’s obituary below my dad’s on the website. Two wonderful kind warm-hearted generous men passing away on the same day. I know your sadness. Thoughts and prayers are with you.
Bob and I shared a boat and loads of experiences involving more than just fishing for about 20 years.
Bob was the definition of a “class act”.
It feels like I have lost a brother.
Please accept our condolences at Bob’s passing. I thoroughly enjoyed Bob’s company on and off the ball diamond. Bob was always cheerful and upbeat. We will certainly miss him. Phyllis & Freeman Hussey
Bob is the Dad of a precious gem of a friend, Janet. Our deepest sympathies, Janet, to you, your Mom and your family.
May the Hope of Heaven fill your hearts with Peace. XOXO The Mazerolle Family
I’m terribly sorry to learn of Bob’s passing. Our Calvary “family” will miss his vitality and continuous support. Marilyn, may your faith help to sustain you now, and in the days ahead.
My sincere condolences to you and your family. Jane Irwin
I met Bob through Muskies Canada and fished with him on more than one occasion. I don’t believe we ever caught a fish but it sure was fun. Great guy with a huge heart. The world is a lesser place without him.
I am so sorry to hear of Bob’s passing.
I’m a good friend of his daughter Janet.
Although I only met him at Janet’s wedding, he sounds like the very best of fathers and a person who was deeply engaged and passionate about his community.
Dear Marilyn
my sincere condolences to you and your family

Bob was a colleague at Westminster Secondary School for many years. He was always such a gentleman, so cheery and good natured, and nice to be around. He was a real favourite at the school. I am so sorry to hear of his passing.
