Obituary
HEENAN, KATHLEEN…
Kathleen (Kitty) Heenan died peacefully at home, on April 20th 2015. Predeceased by her parents, and siblings Doreen (George) Merrifield and Molly (Bob) Hall. Born in Saskatchewan, Kitty was a long time resident of Ingersoll and London. Kitty leaves behind her nieces and nephews Scott (Patricia), Paul (Sophie), Brock (Heather), Pamela (Phil), Steve (Lisa), and Susan (Brian) in addition to many great (and great great) nieces and nephews. Fondly remembered by her extended Ingersoll family including Lynn Tye, and the Lewicki clan. Special appreciation to Linda Powers as well as the caring staff at Highview Residences. Thank you all for being there for our Aunt. St. Paul’s Cathedral was always an important part of her life, and a great source of inspiration and friendship, not only for her, but for Brock and his family during her times of need. Brock and Kitty shared a fondness for the CBC Radio, and the Globe and Mail (especially the wonderful life stories in the Saturday obituaries). And few had a royal sense of humour like Kitty did – “Age is a number, and mine is unlisted”. At Kitty’s request, no funeral will be held. Please keep her in your prayers. Donations may be made to St. Paul’s Cathedral, 472 Richmond Street, London, ON N6A 3E6 or to the Alzheimer’s Society , 435 Windermere Rd, London, ON N5X 2T1 or further research.
Cups and saucers, plates and dishes – Little girls with calico britches – We all love you, Kathleen Stewart – We all love you, yes we do.

My dear Aunt Kitty. Between you and your two sisters (my Mom Doreen and Aunt Molly), you really were 3 of a kind. I am so thankful that I had you in my life, and it was an honour to be able to support you over the past few years. I have had so many wonderful conversations over the last two days with people that you impacted over the years, especially your long term friends. And we always shared a laugh at how you made some remark or comment that would always bring a chuckle. No one was as quick as you 🙂 We will miss you pal, and as we always said in parting, “I love you” – “I love you more!” Brock
Dear Brock and Heather…I have just received word of Kitty’s passing (as I am now living in Ireland) and I wanted you to know you are all in my thoughts and prayers. I considerate it a privilege to have known and cared for your Aunt. She was one of a kind and I thoroughly enjoyed our daily conversations. Brock, Kitty loved you very much and that was quite evident in the way she talked about her nephew. Both you and Heather were very good to her and I know she appreciated that during the past few years. Take care of each other. Regards, Janice
I enjoyed knowing Kathleen at many of the Study Groups at St. Paul’s Church that she participated in, she was always friendly and interested in everything.
In the Sunday bulletin of St Pauls Anglican Church it says that a Service of Holy Eucharist in honour of Kathleen Heenan will be held in St Aidans Chapel at St Pauls Church on Queens Ave at Richmond St on Wed April 29, 2015 at 12:15 PM.
Many parishioners at St Pauls Church were saddened to hear of Kathleen’s passing.
Two announcements were made this morning in church at St Pauls regarding the passing of Kathleeen Heenan.
To the relatives of Kit Heenan,
My name is Gale Leijdekkers. My Maiden name was Schiffmann & my family owned Schiffmann’s Jewellers in London. When your Aunt moved into London she was looking for a place to get her jewellery repaired. A longtime customer of ours, who knew your Aunt, recommended our shop; and that was the start of a lovely friendship. Over the years your Aunt came to our shop for watch batteries, jewellery repairs, gift purchases; but more importantly, she came to chat about what was going on in our lives, to exchange a joke or 2 & to talk about our mutual love of cats & Sean Connery.
When I married my 1st husband in 2003, Kit brought us a lovely gift; and when he passed away 14 months later, Kit was at his Memorial. Two years later when another customer of ours, who lived in Kit’s building on Richmond St., died in an apartment fire, it was Kit who called me right away, before I would hear it in the news. I also had the privilege to visit Kit for coffee at her apartment.
In 2012 I moved to New Brunswick & got remarried. I had sent Kit my new contact info but then I started having trouble reaching her. I even tried to find out how to contact her through our mutual friend, only to find out that, sadly, he had passed away. I was sure I had run out of options to locate Kit. Then, one evening last year, my phone rang & it was Kit! She had found the card with my info & decided to call me. I was over-the-moon happy to hear her voice! I had been missing my friend & our talks; but that night we must have talked for over an hour. We promised to stay in touch and we did talk a few more times. I sent her some photos of the east coast & of my new family. I told Kit that the next time we were in London I would definitely visit her, to which she replied, “You better. I want to meet that new husband of yours!” After this past Christmas I had been unable to get Kit on the phone & I left several messages. My husband & I have planned to go to London in early May & we planned to visit Kit then. But, yesterday, my mother informed me of Kit’s passing. I had so hoped to see her one more time, but it was not to be; and I will miss Kit more than I can express. She was one of the lovliest people I had the privilege to know. I will miss our talks, and her great sense of humour; and I just wanted to tell you a little about my friendship with your Aunt & to pass along my deepest condolences.
And Kit, if you are reading this, today I love you more! xo
