Alice Sherwin hired me at MLHU in January of 1988. We had just returned to London from Saskatchewan and I had 2 young boys. I had been painting my new house all morning and was out running some errands, still wearing my painting clothes. I decided to drop off a resume at the nursing desk at MLHU (what was I thinking!) and got ushered right into Alice’s office! I insisted I wasn’t dressed appropriately for an interview, but Alice assured me otherwise, and after the most casual interview I ever had, offered me a choice of positions! (So much for HR and the interview gauntlet of today!) But that was Alice: down to earth, approachable, generous, congenial. I was very sad to note her passing, but it gave me an opportunity to reflect on a great woman and a wonderful nurse. I continue to work today in the exact area that Alice hired me for but in St. Thomas. So she was also a woman of foresight! My condolences to you all.

I wish to extend my sincerest condolences to Alice’s family. I had the pleasure of working with Alice at the Health Unit, and in later years, we resided in the same condominium community. Among many upstanding attributes, I always appreciated Alice’s “down to earth” approach to work and life and her “good old common sense”. She will be missed in our hearts and in our community.
