OLIVER, Thomas George…
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Thomas G. Oliver on Thursday, January 9, 2014 at the Village of Glendale Crossing, London in his 98th year. Beloved husband of Shirley Ann (Williams) and the late Esther Hudson, Catherine Dunlop and Jean Lawrence. Dear father of Clifford (Mary), daughter-in-law MaryAnne, Sister-in-law Daisey, and survived by five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Predeceased by parents Robert and Nellie, brother Jack and son James. He will be sadly missed by his stepson Harry (Gayle) Dunlop and his adopted families in Sarnia. He will be greatly missed by his nephew and nieces and their families out West. Tom was born in Bexley Heath, England and came to Canada in 1922. He attended Tecumseh and Trafalgar Public Schools and H. B. Beal Technical High School. His first job was with Supersilk Hosiery. In 1941 he joined the London Police Force and in 1946 passed with high marks in forensic science at the Institute of Applied Science in Chicago. In 1943 he assisted in the formation of London Police Boy’s Band. Tom was your friendly and most popular policeman directing traffic at the corner of Dundas and Richmond streets during the war years. In 1947 he joined C. E. Marley Outdoor Advertising and was with them for 33 years until his retirement. Tom was a member of the Kinsman Club and President of the K40 Club. Tom was an avid golfer and curler at the Highland Golf and Country Club, where he served on the Board of Directors in the 1960’s. He played hockey for the Supersilk Industrial League and the London Police Department. He played soccer for Trafalgar School, H. B. Beal School and the London German Canadian Club. His music career started with the Trafalgar Drum and Bugle Corps and later he was in the H. B. Beal Technical High School Orchestra and the Mocha Temple Oriental Band (he was that tall guy leading the parades playing the drums) at that time. Tom enjoyed playing tennis, card games, fishing trips and travelling. He is a life time member of Trinity Anglican Church in Lambeth. At Tom’s request there will be no visitation or memorial service. Cremation has taken place. A private graveside service at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens will be held at a later date. So sad to hear of the passing of my Uncle. I will miss his phone calls to us on the West Coast and his humour. He will truly be missed by myself and my family. Take care now Uncle Tom.
I’m sorry to hear of Toms passing.
When he was still working, he looked after our account very professionally.
When reading his obituary I was even more impressed with what he had done in his life over what I already knew.
I am sure he will be missed by many and especially by a few.
Please forward my condolences to Tom’s family , he in the past came to some lunch gatherings of the London Police retirees at Tiger Jacks and was able to give us some stories of policing in the 40’s . If the family comes across any old pictures and would allow them to be copied please contact me , there is a London lawyer John Lisowski who is doing the history of London Police Services and would appreciate any info .
Once again my condolence ,

Uncle Tom was married to my dads sis Aunt Kay (Catherine) through most of my youth. We sadly lost touch after my mother passed away and I am so pleased to see he continued to live a long and active life. RIP Uncle Tom! You were the best!
