Dear Brian, Maureen, David, Lorraine and Muriel.
News of your mom’s passing brought back many happy memories spent at the beach at Port Albert. We knew Flo as a quiet, but fun-loving woman. May you be comforted by all the thoughts you have of the good times spent with her. We know she will be missed.

Flo you were my sidekick, my partner in Laughter. I loved it when you would call and check on “our gigs”. You called them wellness gigs and we enjoyed sharing laughter and good will to many.
My phone machine often blinked and the message was “June Bug, this is Flo Bug, and I just called to say I love you.”
Flo Bug I love you and thank God for your life on earth, especially the years we were friends. Now your life continues and I can see you now, on a gig with the angels and laughing and sending love and good will to all of us.
June Bug
Please know our thoughts and prayers are with you all at this time. Flo was a vibrant and loving person and we feel fortunate to have had the opportunity to spend time with her recently at your home in North Bay during Katheline and Mark’s wedding.
Our sincere sympathy to the entire family, Love the Pennos
Flo was a great lady. Her sense of humour was delightful. She was a joy to be with. I would give her a ride to the montly NORLOKI lunches. She would always have a new experience to talk about with her inimitable style. She will be missed.
Dear Muriel and Family,
I am so sorry to hear of your mom’s passing. You are in my thoughts during this time of sadness
Our deepest condolences to all of Floernce’s family and friends. She certainly touched us in a very special way. Her kindness, gentleness, compassion, humour and were unsurpassed. Her words of wisdom live in my heart. She really lit up the room with her presence. Florence had a zest for life and her sparkle touched everyone. We will miss her and are better people for having known her!
My deepest sympathies are with you all. Aunt Flo was a significant figure in my childhood memories. I can still smell the omelettes frying in the kitchen.
Anyone who ever met Florence Vina McParland knew right off
that they were in the presence of a force to be dealt with.
I first met her in October 1982 when I was invited for
Sunday dinner with the family. That was the first of many
dinners and family gatherings that we shared in London,
Waterloo, North Bay, Santa Cruz, Montreal, Vancouver, and of course at the cottage north of Goderich.
There were many special times. I particularly remember one
evening at our house in Waterloo. We were all listening to
Hank Snow on the phonograph (that’s a “stereo” for the
younger crowd) after dinner. Flo and I were dancing in the
living room, or at least trying to dance, while everyone else got out of our way as best they could. We all had had a bit to drink by that point. She and I were nevertheless
trying to do some version of Western Swing dancing,
including the part where the guy twirls the gal around once
or twice. I don’t think I ever actually mastered that move,
but certainly that night I didn’t. Flo did pretty well for the first spin, but the second took her down. She and then I ended up on the floor while everyone else giggled in
delight. That ended our career as a famous dance duo, but
not our friendship.
Whenever I had the privilege of attending dinner at the
McParland household on Devonshire Place it was always a production, with lots of family present and Flo, Queenie as Stan apparently used to call her, presiding over it all in regal splendor while the scullery maids (that would be Muriel, Lorraine, and Maureen) scurried about doing all sorts of last-minute things to make sure that everything got onto the table at the right time while Flo made sure that
each person was in his or her
proper seat so she could dole
out their plates. Christmas dinners were no exception. They were always very special times.
This Christmas, and for many Christmas dinners to come, we
will miss having Flo at our tables. But she will be there in spirit through all of us as we remember her in our hearts.
Sorry for your loss Brian, Maureen, David, Lorraine, Muriel, and families. My memories of Florence will be treasured. She was such a gentle person, soft spoken and so caring. She did have a twinkle in her eye though, and could lovingly tease her cousin Gordon (my father) back. We enjoyed her visits to the north and I won’t forget how we got her all dressed up in the proper gear, and took her for a snowmobile ride. I think she was close to 80 years old then; what a good sport! She was so interested and helpful while we worked on the Campbell History book. We will miss her visits and phone calls. She was one of a kind.
My deepest condolences to you and your family Muriel. I will keep you in my prayers during this difficult time.
McParland family–
I have many wonderful memories of Aunt Flo but my most favorite vision of her is outside the cottage having an afternoon nap on a cot with her rubber boots nearby.

We did that….laughed and played and thanked God for lending her to us for such a special time in all our lives. We will always love her and remember her wonderful smile.

McParland Family –
When our mom died, Flo sent me a picture of the two of them swinging in the hammock at the lake. I hope they are in Heaven smiling and swinging again. Your mom was one of the best….
