Dr. Don Marshall was one of the key figures in my memories of growing up at Wortley Baptist Church. His commitment to Jesus Christ was an example for all of us. My memories of him are that of an encourager, and one who took a personal interest in what God was doing in the lives of those growing up in the church. I can still remember his encouragement to our Holiday Club team as we told the children at Ipperwash Beach about the Lord Jesus.
Although I won’t be able to be there for the service celebrating his life (I am now living in China), I will be remembering you as a family in this time of sorrow — although our sorrow is not without hope. The day is coming soon when we shall be united with Dr. Don in heaven and will be able to share in worshipping God together again.
Dr. Marshall saved my life at the War Memorial Children’s Hospital exactly 48 years ago this month. He was a brilliant doctor and he put up with a very cranky and irritable child and helped me to survive. he even bought me a large bottle of Kist soda pop when I left the hospital after two months. I had asked for the soda on my way to the Operating Room and he was considerate to me to remember this request and he fufilled it for me. I send my deepest sympathies to your family at this time.
Paul my deepest sympathies to you and your family, from what I’ve read your father was a good man and so are you.

We met Dr Marshall at St. Joseph’s Hospital in 1972 when our infant daughter, Leslie, needed surgery. His meticulous attention to detail, his exceptional memory, and most of all his kind reassurance to a worried new family were remembered by us and often talked about. He later treated Leslie’s father, and a great-uncle.We would bump into Dr Marshall some years later when we visited the ice cream stop down “Snake Road” at Ipperwash.
This man will remain in our hearts forever.
Don, you will be remembered.
You made a medical difference to our daughter Rachel 41 years ago. Thanks.
We also remember you fondly from the day at Wortley Baptist church. You dared to wear yellow shorts at church services. It reminded us that
people should not be uptight
about appearances – of course
he was not slovenly at all, but just dressed for comfort and that makes sense.
Perhaps others viewed you as a
“rebel” but you outspokenness
was a real blessing to others
who may not have had the courage to express themselves.
We will see you in Heaven, Don.
Condolences to Don’s family for your loss. It is always
hard to lose a family member.
Sorry we will not make it out
to the visitation or memorial
service, but our hearts are
with you all.
Paul, and the entire Marshall Family,
So sorry to hear of your loss. Please accept our deepest sympathy on the loss of your father. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
A very great man has left us. Dr. Marshall has been a hero in our family for over 25 years and remembered with gratitude often.
In 1985 our son Steve met Dr. Marshall for the first time. Steve was a very small ten year old and had been probed and examined for ten years by many doctors trying to discover the reason for this siz. Many discounted our concerns but Dr. Marshall listened. He said that was the most important tool a doctor had in his kit. He operated on Steve almost immediately and found a cancerous tumor blocking his digestive system. Steve wouldn’t have lived much longer. Dr. Marshall wrote a medical paper on him and was immensely pleased with his subsequent progress. We lost track of Dr Marshall after he left Ipperwash but he was never far from our thoughts. Steve is now a pilot with WestJet and a testament to Dr. Marshall’s skill and to his compassion and determination that “this little guy should have a chance.” We thank this wonderful man, Dr. Marshall, again and offer our condolences to his family.
Paul,
Just wanted to let you know my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during this time.
After reading the stories about your Dad, I’m sad I never got to meet him!

My belated condolences. In 1976 I was 11 years old. Dr. Marshall was my surgeon. He saved my life. Thank You!
Idont gomany days without thinking about my daughters death at 10mnths led .she had a small bowl problem Dr marshall reattaches her small bossl to her large bowl with a 180° twist in. If.two days passed she brought up everything she ate Dr marshall said it was just her not tolerating food.when I asked for a 2nd opinion n he said no because this opinion was best .sfter 3mnonths I finally found a Dr to refer her too sick kids toronto.they found the twist and fixed it than told me if I’d have gotten her here a month earlier they could of saved her.the nutriments they have her too keep her alive caused schlerosis of the liver and she died.so I am here remem ring him as I did then and I m sorry he passed to his family but in my heart he killed my baby girl
In 1987 when I resided with my family in London Ontario I had the honor of meeting a great human being and physician! Dr. Marshall saved my five year old daughter from a life- time of misery due to a significant abdominal hernia which had been present since birth. When her pediatrician at the time refused to address her condition, I went to Dr. Marshall. He examined my daughter and reassured me that I did the right thing and that a mother KNOWS when there is something wrong with their child! He called the pediatrician to tell him he did wrong and then he followed it up with a letter. For my daughter to not have had the hernia repair operation would have meant her pain would have continued and I more than likely would not have had the four beautiful grandchildren I currently have from my youngest daughter! Surgery performed later would have posed a significantly greater risk to the health and well-being of my daughter!
Wherever Dr.Marshall’s energy form now resides, I am sure he is living in eternal happiness for who he was on earth and for all his good deeds as a gifted surgeon!!!
