It is so sad to be sending you a note so soon after your dad died just a few months ago. We want to express our sadness for you at this time and to let you know that we are thinking of you all. Mrs. E was a lovely woman, always cheery — a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. A couple of my memories are her sitting with the girls singing “Pony Boy” which is a song I later used to sing to my children and sitting on the side lines in some gym in her lawn chair cheering on the girls’ volleyball teams. I know you will miss her but she is now with Don. Love V
With the passing of Uncle Don and now Aunt Elva, the world has lost two of its rocks. They both made society better, not by being flashy, but by being good citizens and role models. I was certainly the benefactor of their kindness and love. It was through them that I knew that I wanted to go to Western. As a child I always enjoyed visiting with the students they had as boarders. More importantly, Aunt Elva’s pursuit of her degree 1 course at a time was always an inspiration for me. Her love of reading and teaching reading were also inspirations in my own teaching career. I am thankful that I did get to visit her and Uncle Don in the spring and I told Aunt Elva I loved her and that she was very special to me.
There must be a wild Allen reunion going on in heaven.
Dear Cindy, Mark and families, I was a colleague of your mother at Empress P.S. many, many years ago. Since her retirement, we have kept in touch through yearly Christmas cards. She was so very proud of the both of you and your wonderful families. I am so sadden to hear of her passing and for whatever reason, I missed the news about the passing of your beloved father. I always remember Don as such a fine gentleman. Your mother, I will fondly remember as the ultimate grade one teacher. You can trust her with your own. She was kind but firm, your child will learn with her! As a younger teacher when I worked with Elva, I looked to her as one of my role models. I know she has had health issues the past few years so I know she is now free of pain and is with her beloved Don. However, it must be so hard for you all. My sincere condolences and may all your wonderful memories of your parents sustain and comfort you all during this difficult time. Sincerely, Susanne Quan
I was very sorry to learn of Elva’s death and wish to express my sincere sympathy to her family. Elva and I were on the Board of Women’s Canadian Club of London together and I enjoyed working with her as she was a lovely person. I remember her telling me about her granddaughter Sarah Pavan and her volleyball successes. Sincerely, Claire
Dear Cindy and Paul,
We are very sad to hear of the loss of your Mom. She was a wonderful person, and will be missed greatly! Such a wonderful fan of the girls and volleyball.
We also did not realize your Dad had passed earlier.
Please know our thoughts are with you and the family at this time!
