THIEL, John William…..
It is with great sadness we announce: John Thiel, in his 90th year, passed away peacefully on February 5, 2009 at home surrounded by his 3 loving daughters, Lee Ann Lees (David) of Ottawa, Mary Ellen Maasik (Victor) of Vancouver and Susie MacDonald (Russ) of Denver. He will be dearly missed by his cherished grandchildren, J.D., Katie, Michael, Melanie and Charlie. John was predeceased by his adoring wife Ellen and beautiful granddaughter Allison. After serving in World War II, John was involved his entire career in Real Estate and affectionately known as “The Man Who Knew London Best”. John’s incredible zest for living and generous nature touched all who knew him! He will be forever young at heart and in our hearts always! A memorial service will be held at Metropolitan United Church, 468 Wellington Street (at Dufferin Avenue), on Tuesday, February 10, 2009 at 1:00 pm with Reverend Robert C. Ripley and Reverend Herbert S. Summers officiating. Lee Ann, Mary Ellen and Susie and family,
We were sad to hear that your Dad had passed away, he will be missed by all. Since moving back to Adevon we had the chance to chat with him on several occasions, he always talked about the fun he had with you 3 and the Reddick girls. We did have a good childhood growing up in Oakridge and those memories will last forever. Unfortunately Peter and I won’t be able to attend the funeral Tuesday but will be there in thought. We are on a ski holiday in Colorado (Silverthorne) for February.
We have great memories of all of you and your Mom and Dad and extend our sympathy to you all.
If you need any help with anything in London once we are back we would be glad to help.
Our thoughts are with you all.
Susan, Peter, Kim and Lexi

I am very sorry to hear of your Father’s passing. I had the privilege of dealing with your Dad in business here at The London Free Press. His gentle nature and smile will be missed.

On behalf of Lowry Signs and staff, our deepest sympathy to the family.

I regarded John as a friend and had a great deal of respect for his business acumen. John was my mentor in joining the Hunt Club and, many times over the years, we had opportunities to chat at the club and even play a little golf. I will miss his sense of humour and the big, welcoming smile with which he always greeted his friends. I count myself fortunate to have been on of them.
