Memories of Helen Volker My first connect with this dear lady was receiving a get well card from Helen – A highlight was that she was praying for my family and me . At West Park she always wanted to know how we were doing – often beginning with her warm hug . Before my wife’s passing in Nov ’05 we had the pleasure of Helen being in our home – a delightful lady who hated to see anything wasted e.g. grapes . How we miss this extra special lady and her neice who so faithfully took her to church when she was able . Now Helen and my wife Liz will be able to enjoy each other for eternity . His peace to the readers . Wes Clow ( courtesy of daughter Ruth
I met Helen & Sandy at West Park. Helen was such a classy lady, and very proud to be the oldest member of our church. May she rest in peace, in the arms of the Lord.
We are sorry to lose such a great friend as Helen, but happy for her, knowing she is with the Lord Jesus, whom she loved so dearly. She became our friend through West Park Church, and we appreciated her wisdom and thankful spirit. She was a joy to know. We send special condolences to Kelly and Sandy, whom we also got to know through Helen. God bless you both for your practical care for Helen.
Dear Helen was a delight to know and a fountain of information and wisdom. On our last vist in early July, I brought my two grandaughters with me and she made sure they heard stories that would interest them and she spoke of the Lord. Helen gave each of them two little turtle ornaments from her collection and to me a lovely heart shaped pottery dish which she wanted me to have to remember her. At the time, of course we had no idea that we would not see our dear friend again. I’m so glad that I have a tangible reminder in home now. Over the years at West Park Baptist Church, Helen would always greet our family with a hug and a smile and frequently remind us of her prayers on our behalf and on behalf of the young people we were ministering to at the time. I recently found some pictures of Helen. In one, she is portraying the “Woman at the Well” complete with costume. She had memorized the whole story and played it for a group of ladies at a tea party at our house about 5 years ago. What fond memories I have of her. The last picture I took of Helen, was one where I happened to capture her with hands raised in the air as she said “I just want to go home Jesus”. It’s a treasure, and now he has answered that desire of her heart. May her family and friends be comforted that Helen is where she longed to be. Peace and joy in the loving memories of Helen to all who knew this dear soul.
