Barb was a warm-hearted and gracious lady who shared a passion with us for purebred dogs … we will miss her very much.

I only met Barb a few times at aqua fitness and she , Nancy, Irene and I went out for lunch a few times. She was a dear, dear lady and we enjoyed her company so much. My greatest sympathy to her family.
Barbara is remembered fondly by her friends in the Sudbury area
Our thoughts and prayers are in our hearts to-day for Barbara.
Our condolences to her family and friends at this time.
Barb was truly a special lady who will be greatly missed by many. She is probably the single person responsible for our falling in love with Elkhounds. When Darryl and I were trying to decide on the right breed of dog for us, we had narrowed our choices down to elkhounds or berners. We found out about a dog show in Scarborough and drove there hoping to see a real LIVE elkhound (prior to that we’d only seen them in books!). We missed the elkhounds in the ring and were in the parking lot getting ready to leave – very disappointed in a wasted trip when we spotted a petite lady loading two elkhounds into the back of a van. So we went over to talk to her. She was obviously very tired (we later found out she had driven from north of Sudbury for the show and was about to make the return trip) but she took time time to talk to us, unloaded her dogs so we could pet and meet them and sold us on the breed. She was not actively breeding at that time, but she referred us to the Van Dycks, who we eventually got Monty (and in a round-about way, Toby) from. She will be greatly missed by the elkhound world. I spent a great deal of time chatting with her over the last few years as we worked on the 2007 National Specialty. I will miss our email chats which continued on after on a regular basis. God speed to the Bridge, Barb.
A donation has been made to JNMRF in Barb’s memory.
Barb was such a well respected person, judge, and friend. Her caring nature shone through in all she did. She will be sorely missed.
Our deepest sympathy to the family of Barbara.WE were friends many years ago when Karl and Jim worked for Ontario Hydro.Love Jim and Dot.
Our connection to Barb was through the Norwegian Elkhound community, where she was so very much respected and loved. She was a true ambassador to the elkhound breed and her contributions to this cause will not be forgotten. She will be missed by all of us.
Deepest sympathy to Barb’s family.

Christine and Linda Lou,
I am truly sorry for your loss Barb and I went throught an awful lot together with treatments and we kept each other very strong….I don’t know what I will do without her now.All my best to your family and if there is anything I can do please contact me ASAP. I tried to look out for ther and Lloyd but they were very set in there ways They will both be sadly missed.
My heart felt sympathy to all the family. As part of the moosedog family, I know she will be greatly missed. She has made an impact on many lives and has given so many great memories. She is now in the arms and paws of those who passed before her and is sharing that great smile with them. God bless and be at peace.
Me deepest condolences to the Barb’s entire family and to her close friends who were in essence part of the family as well and who will also miss her famous smile, quick wit and undogged resolve.
Tenacious yet respectful.
Wilful but giving.
Much like the elkhounds that were such a great part of her life and who allowed so many of us access to her and a small part of her life. Certainly many of the hallmarks of both she and her beloved Moose Hounds are intertwined. No wimpy dogs for her and no time for wimpiness for herself. Too many things to do , too many things to do well and certainly too many trips to take and memories to share.
Not once during these many years of treatment did I ever hear a “Poor me’ from her lips or in her actions. Always a shrug of the shoulders and a peek at what lay underneath those fabulous wigs 🙂 I was lucky enough to have been part of Barb’s last Big “DO” last summer as Paul Woito dragged me to the Elkhound dinner and banquet, that we all know Barb had a large hand at organizing. Such a wonderful evening and weekend and Barb never appeared the least bit tired . Did I mention tenacious earlier?? To a fault. But oh that we all should have that kind of steadfast resolve for our breeds , for our friends and for our family.
I will miss Barb’s large warm smile, Barb’s firm hugs and certainly her genuine words of encouragement.
We, and you, her family, have lost a woman ahead of her time and one that will be hard to replace.
Again, my sincerest condolences and regrets that I will not be amongst you as you share your last farewells. I will have my own moment with her as I work the gardens and commune with Mother Earth, I think Barb would have liked that.

Honourguard For Barb Innes-Whaley
Long ago I met you Barb and Karl, Christine and Lou
And of course those Elkhounds
Then Paul joined the clan too.
Their cozy spot in Oshawa
The house, the pool, the run
It was all so perfect and we all had so much fun!
Suddenly and unexpectedly Karl had died, upon his jumbo jet
There they were so brave, those girls
An honourguard supporting his casket.
Barb stepped up and organized
Her new life, she renovated
Barb met strong Lloyd, a cattle farmer that she dated.
They made a life together in Canada’s sweet North
Barb would quilt, make friends and Dog Show Judge and cook and so forth
Yes in Cobalt Barb made friends galore, the names we could hardly keep up to,
She had friends in every county and hamlet and even every drive- thru
The names are too many to mention dear friends
She’d be mad if we’d forgotten
Even one dear friend, like Sharon, who was part of her fun plottin’.
Barb loved the Westminster, New York Dog Show,
They’d fly in for about a week
Barb and Gerona in one room, Sharon, Jenn and Christine
In another room, ultra chique!!
I heard about the ambulance, The Park and all the dogs
Park Ave. Mary, shopping, it was in all the blogs.
Barb’s magnetism flourished, right up until the end
She even said “good-bye, take-care”
She was my dear sweet caring friend.
She radiates her love to all, even from over”yonder”
We all thought of life and death this week
On this we have to ponder.
With laboured breath she prayed to God
With Patrick and Lou at her side,
Christine was carefully nursing Barb
in her comfortable stride.
Barb blessed the marriage of Eric and Jenn
With jewels in eventide
Paul was being cheerful, always sweet and kind
Barb was busy blessing ,
All of us left behind.
Goodbye dear friend, dear Barbara
They are trying to be so brave
Paul and Christine are such a team
They’re dealing with this huge wave.
Godbless, take care, dear Barbara
As we lay you in your grave.
The world keeps turning merrily
We’re trying to progress
Take care sweet Barb, we love you
Take care and
May God Bless.
Love Catharine xoxo…

My memory of Barbara was her wonderful sense of humour and warmth. When I first met Barbara it was at the Credit Valley Dog Show, where she was stewarding. She stood out from the crowd with her wonderful sense of style. Aside from that her talent for making one and all feel comfortable in her “ring”. Even though, we were both Northerners, I didn’t see Barbara much, but when I did it was always a fun and gossipy chat. Rest In Peace, Barbara – you will be missed.

Dear Linda Lou,Christine,Paul & family,
Know that you have all been in our thoughts & prayers these last few days.
What a wonderful friend we met such a short time ago.
Some of us had special names for Barbara,
I just loved her as Barb,
Jack’s term of endearment was Barbalina,Wendy’s was Barbie Baby.
So good natured was she that she loved them all.
Barb’s blue eyes & that beautiful smile was something that will be ingrained in our hearts and minds forever.
I don’t recall any friend having such an impact on our lives as Barb did right from the “get go”when we met her last summer.
We will treasure our memories of her forever, many many laughs, very few tears, just an amazing lady.
She will be missed by so many of her dear friends & of course her family that she spoke so highly of.
Our only regret is that we hadn’t met Barb many years ago but so thankful for the time we did have her in our lives.
She loved to give hugs and today we send hugs to all of you.
Take special care,
Darlene & Jack
I’ll miss Barbra’s smile and girlish giggles as she’d share the story of the wedding reception that she mistakenly attended while at the 1988 NEAA Nat’ls in Cleveland, OH. She thought she was in the room for the NEAA Banquet but when Bob & I arrived and looked in, there was no one we recognized except Barbra who was seated in the back of the gathering. I walked up to Barb and asked if she was going to the banquet. She thought she WAS at the NEAA banquet and had wondered why she didn’t recognize anyone there. As we escorted her to the correct room, she confided that she’d already been through the food line and we both laughed like little girls. Every time we saw each other from then on, she never failed to ask me if there were any wedding receptions we could crash and we’d both crack up giggling again just as the first time!
Until we meet again,
Diane & Bob Coleman

I would like to express my condolences to the family on their loss.
Barb was a caring warm-hearted soul and I will miss seeing her at the dog shows and sharing a funny story and a laugh together.
I know she will be missed by many people in the ‘dog show world’. And the Elkhound breed has lost a great ambassador.
To the Family of Barbara Innis:
Being a fellow dog exhibitor and then a judge gave me the opportunity to meet and be with Barbara on many occasions. Barbara was a joy to be with , full of laughter and fun. She also had her serious side with patience and kindness. People like Barbara are treasures in the human and dog world alike. To her family we can only express our sincere condolences and to let you know it was an honor to know and be a fellow judge for the past years. Rest in Peace, Pain no more, dear lady.
Sincerely
Cheryl and Wynn Egerton

As a long-time friend of Linda Lou, I know how important her mother Barbara was to Linda Lou and the entire family. Barbara lived life to the fullest and made a real contribution by generously sharing her enthusiasms, skills and compassion over the decades. I hope the memory of her love and zest for life helps to keep Linda Lou and Christine strong through this sad time, and continues to inspire in the future.

We feel so fortunate to have known Barbara through the world of dogs. She was always a joy to talk to, and her courage and determination in fighting her illness was, and is, an inspiration to us all.
The world is an emptier place without her, but she’ll always be remembered as a gracious, fun loving person who brought much happiness to those who were fortunate enough to know her.
Our sincere condolences to her family.

You will truely be missed, Your possitive attitude, and contagouse smile, helped me through some difficult times. The years of Memories we built will stay in my heart forever.
You are a true angel, and you will be Mised.
Till we meet again.
To Barb’s family we send our deepest condolences. I have not had the pleasure of meeting her girls but please know you are in my thoughts with the passing of your precious Mom.
Bill and I met Barb last summer while vacationing in Haileybury, we spent lots of time with her, had many meals together, an occasional glass of wine and an endless amount of laughter.
Barb will be dearly missed by so many of us. You had an exceptional Mother and may your memories of her keep you both so very strong.
Sincerely,
Linda and Bill Hume
She called me her guardian angel after her diagnosis. We hugged and talked about it often and shared our experiences. She even gave me beautiful glass angels as a Christmas gift a few years ago. She is with the ‘real’ angels now. I will miss that beautiful smile and wonderful sweet enduring attitude. Blessings to the family. What a wonderful treasure was our Barb.
Canada has lost their “First Lady” of Norwegian Elkhounds and I have lost a cherished lifelong friend.
Barb first came into my life as a client when I showed some of her dogs in the States, but over the years, our friendship evolved into so much more than that. Over the last week I’ve reflected on all the wonderful times we had in the US, Canada and England. There was NEVER a dull moment when Barb was around! A kinder, more thoughtful and respected woman I will probably never know.
Rest in peace, dear friend. Keep ‘dem golden slippers on and one day we’ll dance again!
All my love,
Maggie
