Hello Derek and Sylvia:
I have met you,Derek, at Elmwood Place, where my mom was a resident until her death in 2006. And Sylvia, of course, you and I chatted on numerous occasions.
Lena was mostly at the table next to my mom’s. She was very dear, and often entertained us with music hall songs, some of which my mom knew. Lena and I also spoke a bit of French together from time to time.
Lena loved dogs, as you know. My brother’s dogs, first Sparky and then later Callie, would visit Elmwood Place on occasion. I remember asking Lena if she would like to pet a dog, and her incredulous reply, “Is it a REAL dog?”
During these past 2 years, I have returned on several occasions to Elmwood Place with my flute and piano-player friend. Last July, Lena was in the front row for the concert, and just made our day, as she kept bursting into song for us and all assembled. One of the songs I remember her singing was “I love you truly”.
Lena was very special, and dearly loved by all who knew her. I will miss seeing her at Elmwood Place.
