I have known Sheila for approximately 30 years and although she was my aunt through marriage to her nephew, Richard, I really thought of her as my aunt in its usual meaning. Sheila had a wonderful sense of humour and never minded telling stories and laughing about herself. I well remember her story about learning to drive a car and the number of times she took the driving test. Based on the stories it is likely best that she never got her driving license and she would be the first to agree. Sheila loved sweets and at Joanne and Dougs wedding breakfast at the Delta Armouries Sheila enlisted me in choosing deserts for her and bringing them back to the table. Normally she would have done this herself and made a better job of it but her vision was a bit of a problem. When I first knew Sheila in the 1970s, she and Norman were still travelling to England and doing a bit of caravan travel which she enjoyed very much. Sheila was a kind and sympathetic person to her sisters, Pat and Barbara, who pre-deceased her. Sheila used to joke with me that Toby and Samatha were her “grand-children” – they are actually very spoiled dogs belonging to Joanne and Jim. Sheila will be greatly missed not only by her children but by all who knew her. Richard and I will certainly miss Sheila but will enjoy the memories.

Aunt Shiela was always one of my favourite aunts because of her kind and gentle disposition and keen sense of humour. I would like to have written my condolences sooner; however, I have just returned from visiting all of the First Nation communities in the Dehcho Settlement Area.
The strength of Aunt Shiela’s character is reflected in her close relationsip with Joanne and Jim who remained by her side on her journey towards the other side, and in all of the fond memories the extended family has of Aunt Shiela. As for me, I can’t think of one negative thing about her, and thats what made her a great person and a wonderful Aunt. I think if I could be half the person she was in life, then I will have really accomplished something.
Here’s to you Aunt Shiela, your the best!!!

There are many memories of my Aunt Sheila that I will always keep with me. Her great sense of humour and fun is part of most of them. We’ll remember her running joke about my job as “A Spy” for the government. How can you be more hilarious than that?? I’ll never forget how uniformly positive she was about things and how she really cared about people, especially her family. We were very lucky toknow such a warm, caring and joyous person.
