Obituary
NELLIGAN
Always our hero
Peacefully surrounded by his loving family and after a heroic battle following surgery in January, Joseph Michael Nelligan passed away on March 15, 2008, in his 88th year. Predeceased by his beloved wife of 51 years, Pauline (1997), his dear parents David and Charlotte, brothers Leo, Vern, George and sisters Marcella and Mary. He is survived by his devoted daughter Mary-Michelle, loving grandchildren Ashleigh and her fiancé Jeff, Joseph, Matt and his fiancée Meagan, great-grandchildren Ryan and Ethan, siblings Margaret, Anne, Bill and Isabel, stepson Fred Linn and his wife Doris and numerous nieces and nephews. Joe deeply loved his family.
Joe signed up for the Armed Forces in 1941 and served with great distinction as a bombadier in the RCAF, 408 Squadron flying in a Lancaster bomber. After the war, he graduated from UWO with a BA and then Carleton University with a degree in Journalism. He pursued a very successful career in public relations working for Trans Canada Airlines (Air Canada) and Eaton’s. His family is tremendously proud of his war record, his career in business and his life in general. A devoted family man, Joe liked nothing better than relaxing at home surrounded by his family. He loved family trips, the Tiger Cats and the Stratford Festival and was a patriotic Canadian, closely following politics. His kind and generous nature and his twinkling blue eyes will be very sadly missed by family, friends and his faithful canine friend, Conor.
A family service will be held at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Stoney Creek, on March 19 at 10:00am. His ashes and those of Pauline will be scattered together at a favourite family place in Haliburton. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made at the SPCA Hamilton/Burlington.
Dad, we shall meet again.
