On Friday, February 1st, 2008 at the Dearness Home, London, Douglas McKenzie Davies in his 89th year. Beloved husband of Sheila Margaret (Whittemore) Davies. Dear father of Ian Whittemore Davies and his wife Kay, and Kenneth Gordon Davies and his wife Sheila all of London. Loving grandfather of Julianna, Keefer, Joshua and Tylere Davies. Also loved by his sister Barbara Vengshoel of Coquitlam, BC. Douglas was a Professor of Biology and Entomology at McMaster University (Hamilton) from 1951 until his retirement. During his career Doug published a large volume of research papers primarily on black flies, and also authored a number of books. Doug and his wife Sheila were tireless volunteers, philanthropists and supporters of humanitarian causes, children’s education and wildlife conservation. Doug was an adventurer and loved to travel. In his lifetime, he visited many parts of the world including the Far East, most of Europe, Greenland, the Holy Land, Scandinavia, Russia, the Caribbean, and South America (including the Galapagos). His favorite place was the family cottage on Lake Muskoka.
