Obituary
Ella May Sorensen
May 30 1912 – January 24, 2008
Peacefully, on January 24, 2008, after 95 happy years, Ella May Sorensen (Getson) has ‘slipped the surly bonds of earth’. The youngest of twelve children born to Albert and Gertrude Getson of Kildare Capes, PEI, Ella is survived by her sister Ruby MacMillan.
Loving Mother of Ingrid & Jim Clark of London, and Bonnie & Jim Hartley of Woodstock; proud Grandmother of Jeremy Clark & Becky Young, Jordan & Sarah Clark, Bronwyn Coulter, Jessica and Craig Hartley, and a beloved member of the entire Getson clan.
Ella moved to London, Ontario after the war where she married her long-time sweetheart, Eric Sorensen of Denmark, now deceased. They lived for many years in the “Old South” area.
She was a member of Calvary United Church, a wonderful gardener, and a lover of poetry. She spent her last years listening avidly to CBC radio to keep up with world events. Her cheerfulness, inquiring mind, and love of good conversation will be missed by all who knew her.
The family has chosen to have a private goodbye. They would like to thank the staff and residents of Ashwood Manor who have been home and friends for the last five years, and the nurses at St Thomas Elgin General Hospital for their care.
In her honour … memorize a poem, plant a rose bush, or donate to the charity of your choice.
“Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of earth, and danced the sky on laughter silvered wings” (High Flight)

Dear Bonnie & Jim, Ingrid & Jim and families:
Our thoughts and sympathy are with you at this time. Ella was a remarkable woman and a wonderful aunt, friend. I loved her very much. I treasure all the very special memories I have and feel blessed that she was part of my life for so many years.
Love Wilma
I did not know Ella long, but truly enjoyed any time we were together. Her sharp wit and knowledge of current events was amazing.
Love Ross
Bonnie, Jim, Bronwyn and family-
Sorry to read of Bonnie’s mother’s passing. I have recollections at some Woodstock Little Theatre post-parties of a proud mother in attendance. My Dad’s funeral is also this week… another parent who loved to see their daughter in plays.
It is always hard to say goodbye even when they live to be 81 or 95.
My thoughts and prayers go with you all.
Sue
