Mrs.Jarmain was my kindergarten teacher at Byron Northview in the 1976-77 year. I have strong memories of her and her kindness. She always looked perfectly dressed, groomed even though she was teaching 30 5 and 6 year olds all day, she remained that way much to the astonishment of the younger teachers. She took us on marvelous nature walks down to Halls Mill and made sure we stopped to take it all in. My grandfather died the summer between kindergarten and grade one and she attended the funeral and wrote a beautiful card. Twenty years later when my father died, she was there. I knew she’d be and there she was… perfectly dressed and ready with beautiful words. A few years later, she attended my wedding. We always exchanged Christmas cards and I could count on hers having a bird on it. My heart is broken but I know how much she missed her husband and am happy that she is finally reunited with him
So sorry to heart of Blanche’s passing.
My contact with her was many years ago when as a young woman my two daughters were in her kindergarten class at Byron Northview school in London.
She was an excellent teacher and gave both my daughters a great start in life.
My younger daughter, Shawna was in the last class she taught before retiring.
There is no reason to believe that she would even remember them giving that so many children passed through her classes, but she was probably instrumental in their choice of careers. Today they are both teachers ( in the Montessori system )
As a twenty something mom I always admired her elegance and sense of style.
She would probably be pleased to know that her little white house on ” Snake Hill ” in Byron is still lovingly cared for and that i think of her everyday as I pass it on the way to visit my Mom in Westmount Gardens L.T.C
SHE MADE A DIFFERENCE
Mrs. Jarmain was my Kindergarten teacher in 1960 at Ryerson Public School. I, too, remember her elegance and kindness. I helped in her classroom when I was in the older grades and graduated from Elborn College at Western in 1977, becoming a K-5 teacher. We kept in touch at Christmas all these years. What did she teach me? Sing, play, plant bulbs in the fall and enjoy nature! I taught these things to my students and we won’t forget. Thinking of her family; she was proud of you.
